| For the last 2 years I've been using a Hewlett Packard R717 6.2 megapixle camera. I use my camera for indoor and outdoor photography. I would like something that has a very fast shutter speed. Something like a professional photography camera so I don't miss a shot and this camera is not doing it for me. The pictures are great, but I can't seem to get a shot of something like my son playing on a trampoline jumping in mid-air. So what do I look for in a camera that would fit my needs? |

| High megapixels is the main thing. My camera is a 12 megapixel camera and the clarity and the quality is unlike anything i have ever seen before. Also makesure that you have a good warranty. Sony has a movement thing that takes a great quality picture even when your in the air. i took a picture of my son jumping off the diving board and it was perfect. i personally go to the site below because they offer you free shipping on orders over $25. |

| Sounds like you're ready to get a digital SLR. You will not find as much control over shutter speed with a digital compact camera as you would with an SLR, especially when you're talking about action shots. One of the most economical digital SLR is the Nikon D40. You can also check out their D40x, D50 and soon to be released D60. These are all great cameras and with a little learning curve will get you exactly what you want. If these are too pricey, look into getting a used Nikon D40 or D70. You can get pretty good bargains for those cameras if used. |

| It depends on what you want out of your camera high mega-pixels are needed if you plan to enlarge your image to like poster size so if that's not what you want I say a nice Eight mega-pixel cam should be great. As well as a pretty go ISO. Another new thing can be the face detection feature. Also you cant go wrong with the usual high rated brands like Canon,elph series with now a 3 Inch LCD if that's your thing or one of t-70 to t-200 now if u want semi professional the cannon XR i or the Sony alpha 100 are good candidates. hope this helps. |

| the best camera i think is a Sony ALPHA DSLR 700 which i own for 1 week, and it works just perfect! |

| A DSLR has very little shutter lag compared to a P&S. I got one just to take photos of my kids because of the exact same problem as you are having. |

| If you don't want to shell out $$$ for a digital SLR, there are some point-and-shoots out there which have fast shutter speeds. In fact, since you bought your last camera, the average digital camera has gotten a lot faster! The best value, speed for money, is the Fujifilm Finepix F20. It's so fast, I even use it AT NIGHT! I mean, the thing goes up to ISO 2000. So your son can jump on that trampoline like Speedy Gonzalas. Also, because it's last year's model, I was able to find a Fujifilm F20 on ebay for $140 (inc. shipping). If you're shopping at brick-and-morter stores, you'll probably find it replaced by the Fujifilm F30 or F45(fd). So long as it's Fujifilm and the model begins with an F, you're good.By the way, in response to Oohay A: It's a common mistake for consumers to get fixated on megapixels. The pictures from your camera aren't blurry because of a lack of resolution (megapixels); they're blurry because the camera's shutter is open for too long (shutter speed)! Also, dividing the sensor (which is probably the same size in a 3mp camera as a 10 mp anyway) into too many megapixels can slow down the processing speed -- not what you want! For example, I used to have a 3 megapixel camera. Now I have a 6 megapixel camera (the Fujifilm F20). When uploaded to the computer, pictures from both cameras have the same file size and show equally large on the screen. Meaning that the old camera's 3 million medium pixels and new camera's 6 million small pixels add up to the SAME amount of detail. In difficult situations (action, night), the new camera is the only one that gives me sharp photos, but only because it is faster.So, look for speed (which can be described as a high ISO). Megapixels -- and I know this goes counter to the commercials -- aren't usually an issue. I've seen 3-megapixel images printed poster size without any pixellation. |
