Sorry if I sound really stupid, but I'm not very good with computers, although I have managed to get together some specs and programmes that I should really have/already use.I work with Pinnacle Studio Plus 11 and Adobe Photoshop for editing, with a DVD/Video format of DV PAL (I'm in the UK). Digital photoshoots often leave me with 200+ images at around 4MB file size each.As well as this, I currently have a backstore of video files in excess of 8GB.I am also looking for my new PC to play Neverwinter Nights one and two with all the expansion packs, as my current laptop just does not like them.Rewritable DVD/CD drives are a must. Firewire connection is a must. I will also need at least 2 USB drives, with at least one being USB2.Can anybody recommend a desktop that would fit these, as I get confused looking at all the specs on websites and I don't really understand graphics cards, sound cards, or anything like that. Thanks!

Dell. 1gb ram, 2.2ghz processor or better, 100gb of hard disk space, and an nividia 8400 graphics card. that should be all you need for a while.

Any decent gaming computer would suit your needs just fine. It really does depend on how much you would like to spend. If you build your own then you will save money, or at least get better parts for the same. You would probably need a good graphics card for your photo work and your games so if you`re on a budget and using Vista then I would go with a good dual core cpu and a nice graphics card and loads of memory and a tidy sized hard drive.Heres my spec AMD Athlon X2 4400+80 Gig SATA HDD320 Gig External HDDSaphire HD2600XT1GIG OCZ Special ops 800MHZ MEMAnd a cheapo case.I built the above and for less than £300, it was a lot cheaper than most systems of the same price. Obviously, the cost of the OS isn`t in that, and I prefer CRT screens for photo work as the colour depth is a lot better than TFT flats. So all in all £400 for everything is tidy and a lot better than systems with less oomph than that, that cost more. However, if you haven`t got a clue then buy a system which has a 8800GT or 8800GTS in it. You can`t go far wrong. Steer well clear of the 8600GS and the like, you will go wrong.Good Luck

Dell XPS 420. £549. It sgot a quad core 3.4 Q6600, two 320mb hard disks in raid, firewire ports on front and back, two usb ports on front, four on back, headphone and microphone sockets front and back. Its got vista hom premium but comes with three gigs of ram. Thats more than enough, but also comes with a nvidia 8800GT 512Mb and thats a cracking card. Both games and video/photpgraphy work can be done in RAW modes. This is a beast of a machine. You will have to get a good monitor though as it does'nt come with one. I paired it with a samsung 226bw gaming tft with 2ms response time. Its got great colour balance and photo editing is a breeze. Any quad core will future proof your needs. Hope the infos useful. Luke

I know I'll go against the grain here but I'll recommend to the cows come home that you go with an Apple Mac.The new iMacs are splendid (what I use) and they really do make everything so incredibly simple. Especially if you are doing any sort of video, photography or design. The new iMacs have everything you mention.... don't need all the PC extensions like sound cards or virus software... it's straight out of the box, plug in and enjoyably easy.Worth casting you eye over them at the apple.com site. Smile
