Please read entire question before answerI bought a windows vista computer years ago (ok months). So far, I have had absolutely no problems. Programs that used to crash my old computer all the time are actually working in windows vista. I figured out that maybe my computer was special, so I went to a computer store and tried out the computers there. After one hour, I couldn't make any of the computers there slow or crash. For example, in a laptop, I opened like 20 programs (including games), did the flip 3D thing with aero on, and couldn't get the ram usage over 50%, and the cpu usage never got about 60%.I don't get it, I never got any compatibility problems, my old printer, programs, and flash drive worked fine.bloated? Like I said, I can never make any windows vista computer slow. And the windows folder only takes up 8 GB.I really enjoy the new features they put into this thing, and how much better it looks. But what is wrong with vista, and why do people say thatto irishwhistle:you obviously have not read my question, I have a copy of vista at home.try encoding a video on that celeron and see how fast it goes... or run crysis (oh wait, you can't)and I would really LOVE switching to typing obscure commands to do anything actually useful (yeah right)

Because vista isnt for computer literate people. Most people who use vista is computer literate. Thats why they think it sucks.

Think people dislike change, vista is much more like linux than any other microsoft os before it. When I got it I was so used to tools like boot.ini and just the layout and stuff that it seemed very unnatural at first, like I had to relearn everything. I think people just dislike change, but it's something thats just gonna get more and more popular until ms release the next os and everyone hates it.It needs high spec hardware to run it, xp is like 10 years old now so will run on pretty dated hardware, as vista is a next gen os expecting it to run on people old hardware is a bit much, it is bloated but I guarantee as hardware improves it will seem less and less bloated.I've got to grips with vista a bit more and can tolerate it, some things I find really hard (like changing the boot tables and partitioning a hard drive). I think its gonna be slowly phased in and eventually people will consider it the norm, that or the alternative which is go for linux or mac, I doubt too many people will opt for macs though simply because of the hardware issues (you have no choices regarding which hardware a mac uses).Who knows, good question though.

They took a page from UNIX, then a page from Linux, from BSD, BeOS,mixed in DOS, BASIC, Java and then put a EULA on it, or 'activation agreement' that claims it is the sole property and intellectual property of Microsoft. That kinda stinks.Any Corporation that can remotely shut me down for an action or a string of code or words that I type on a keyboard is just wrong.DRM is the debil!

I use Vista quite a bit (as a secondary OS) and this is what I have to say: First of all I'm gonna jump ahead to that "only 8GB part." An 8GB OS is the essence of a bloated system, my OS takes up under 4GB and is much prettier than Vista... the Vista effects aren't even comparable... and my OS NEVER crashes... not even on 256MB of RAM. You have to remember that not everyone can afford an expensive computer that doesn't choke on 10 popups every five minutes, which is about what you get in Vista. The computer stores like Best Buy have systems on display with nothing but the programs that come with Vista (meaning they will run fast, but what will happen when you load them up?), not to mention that many of them are very good (expensive) systems. If you are impressed with Vista you would be absolutely amazed at the OS I use. My mom and my brothers have Vista comps and both of them experience horrible slowdowns ALL THE TIME, I haven't experienced this yet on my rig that not only looks BETTER, but takes up less than HALF the space and runs on 1/4 the RAM! (I've been using this OS for over a year now.) This OS also needs absolutely NO virus protection whatsoever and is 100% customizable to how you like it. Oh, did I mention that there aren't any annoying popups either? Thus, my reason for hating Vista is not because I have been misinformed, but because I have used it (on 1GB RAM, DualCore AMD 64) and been utterly disappointed with it. In fact, It has run SLOWER on that 1GB of RAM than Ubuntu (http://www.ubuntu.com/ That's my OS) runs on 256MB of RAM and a Celeron processor! You may wonder how that looks better than Vista... I admit that by default it doesn't, but get a load of this (which comes pre-installed on Ubuntu). http://compiz.org/Home/ScreenshotsIt comes with LOADS of effects that you couldn't even DREAM of doing in Aero (not to mention are actually faster than Aero.)That's my reasoning, I hope you understand. :)EDIT: Yes, I did read your post. I'm just saying that you most likely have a high end gaming rig, which many people can't afford. I admit I can't run Crysis on 256MB of RAM, but I can on Ubuntu (with Cedega) if I had more RAM.What about obscure commands? Linux has managed to mature much more than you think, 99% of the time (actually more) I don't touch the command line.Try encoding a video in Vista... I have... it STUNK compared to Uubntu.

Most people who don't like Vista have used one operating system before. The hardest change is the first, when you have never had to relearn computer commands. And there's all the hardware that doesn't work anymore.People who have learned more than one operating system are used to the pain.
