end of may. In january we met with some caterers, we took my mom and step dad with us to give us there opinions about it. after sampling food (which we thought was ok) and talking with the people, my parents had to leave so we stayed and continued the conversation, we told my parents we would come over later to discuss everything, so anyways we are assuming that everything is ok so we tell the caterers will get back to them. We go to my parents and first thing out of their mouths is that they didnt like the food etc.. So they offer to pay for the food and not go to a caterer but do it themselves, we pick the menu and they will buy and prepare everything. ( my mom is a good cook and she has done this kind of thing before so thats not a problem) we agree so we have basically $1,000 to 1,500 we can use on other things. So we end up using the money for a dj and the hotel, now we are like 56 days from the wedding day and now my parents can't do the food because they arepaying for a lawyer for my sister, who is getting a divorce and her ex is taking her to court for custody of the kids. I understand this so i'm not mad about that, its just that my sister can afford to pay for some of the fees herself but she wont, and my parents wont make her, So now we have to figure out what to do about food, we have no money left in the budget at all, we dont have credit cards so thats not an option and we cant get a loan at this time. So basically anyone have any ideas, or anything that could possibly help??ThanksI dont think a potluck would be appropriate because the reception is in a fancy hotel (we have the whole middle floor) and wouldnt be right to ask everyone to bring food, or just a few people, it would make us look kinda odd and be embarrassing(sp).my fiance only has his mom left and she lives on social security benefits100 people have RSVP'd

Thats Ironic.... I would say pot luck, but that is kinda cheap.... if you can't find a way to get the money by cutting somehting.... that would be my last resort.

i had a big money issue too with my wedding. my family paid for nothing, we don't have money like that. i didn't want a big wedding but my husband was raised by his grandparents and their side of the family is HUGE. what we ended up doing was paying $200 or $400 ( i cant remember which) for a lady from his grandma's church to make finger foods and punch for 100 people. it's simple, and it's "buffett-style". our families had a wonderful time, and enjoyed the food.good luck i hope it works out, i'm sure it will!

So you are telling me that you don't have any savings left over at all? You should always have at least $1000-$2000 in savings for emergencies like this! We made sure that we did for our wedding. Ok, I'll stop lecturing - but you can't let people go without food! Can you make a bit of money working overtime or do you have a friend or relative who can loan you some money that you can pay back with a little interest? I'm sure there is someone who can help.
