Comfort food is VERY popular right now. Think mac & cheese and fried chicken. Dessert bars and mini portions are huge as well. Think individual apple pies, etc. If you want to do finger foods, think appetizer bar. You can have a huge bar of appetizers and people can help themselves. If you have a theme for the wedding, try to incorporate tht theme.

If you mean finger food buffet than you could choose chicken, ham finger sandwiches, deviled eggs, cheese and crackers, cocktail wieners wrapped with ham and bacon, swedish meatballs, etc.

little sandwiches and deviled eggs are a good idea. if you want to go more elegant, try cream puffs. they are really good and a whole pile of them looks very fancy. also try a chocolate fondue fountain (with strawberries and stuff), it went over really well at my friends wedding. good luck!

If you want finger food for a wedding make sure it isn't messy. No wings or ribs. Finger sandwiches vegetable trays with dipscheese and crackersegg rollscrab rangoonmeatballsMake sure that where you are having the reception will allow catering to be brought in. Some wedding halls and hotels don't allow you to bring in anything except the wedding cake. They make you purchase all the food from them or their chosen caterer. (What a sweetie you are getting for a mother-in-law!)

Melon balls wrapped in prosciutto, finger sandwiches maybe with havarti & mortadella, mini tostadas, veggie tray, fruit tray, chicken fingers, shrimp cocktail. Tons of stuff. Here's a link to the "appetizers & snacks" section for a website I use a lot. You should be able to get some great ideas there:http://allrecipes.com/Recipes/Appetizers-and-Snacks/Main.aspx

I would suggest that you get a small cookery book which has a good array of buffet food, complete with recipes and pictures, to assist your soon-to-be mum-in-law and yourself in choosing a variety of things which cater for all tastes. That way she can discuss with you what she can easily make (or not). You will also have a visual image in advance of what you are going to serve. As it is a wedding, then certainly a couple of slightly special and different things at least should be included. Prawns, vegetables, chicken fillings etc. in phyllo pastry are a good idea, with lots of dips to accompany. The choice will depend very much upon the range of guests and your personal knowledge of their tastes. I once went to a wedding where caterers had made, as the dessert, choux pastry swans filled with fresh whipped cream. I went home and made them myself, very easy. 2" choux buns, top sliced off and filled with cream - thus the body of the swan. The neck and head were made with choux pastry piped on to a tray and each one shaped just like an 'S' . When cooked, dip one end - the head - in melted chocolate and place the other end into the cream that is sat in the bun section. They were all served on a huge mirror, with flowers laid around the sides. It looked lovely and was very effective. Good luck, and enjoy your big day.
