I am a little surprised. My friend Marie and her fiance are getting married the 2nd week of June. She still has not sent out wedding invites to anyone, which is a bit odd in my opinion. She's got friends and family in a couple of states, mostly here in Florida. I have asked her about this, stating that I would like to mark the day down on my calendar, and I would like to send her back the invite with a check mark saying I will come with a guest. However, she tells me she shouldn't have to send out the invites until a FEW weeks before the wedding. She says that it's okay, because she is automatically assuming everyone can go by word of mouth, etc. I say it's ridiculous, since how will she know what food to serve? Etc. My other problem, is that I have an immediate family members birthday the same day as the wedding, and I have received invited on that particular event, and would like to mark it down and go. any advice?

wow, I think only a few weeks before is crazy! she may not get rsvp's back in time. If she has a caterer, they usually need a head count 1 month before the date. She should at least send save-the-date cards so everyone fromo ut of town can plan to travel

I think a month or month and a half are enough for it... I mail them a month before the wedding... after all i didnt have to confirm the catering and other services til a week before the wedding...

6-8 weeks before the wedding is standard for a wedding invitation. This allows enough time to gather RSVPs and give numbers to caterers, event halls, for tables, meals, etc. So, it is a bit early for 2nd week of June...mid-end of April will be more appropriate.Usually a save-the-date would be appropriate for people to mark the date on their calendar. Since it appears you already know the date, she's comfortable with your word of mouth. This doesn't make it okay to not send an invitation at all. You can warn her that they may be overpaying (paying for food that isn't served) without an appropriate headcount.

At least six weeks so that they can prepare for the day. People need to make travel arrangements and buy dresses and stuff..

Two months before the even is standard. So you should be receiving it in the next two weeks.

6 - 8 weeks is common to send them out...I'm getting married July 5, 2008...I'm sending my out in a couple weeks due to it being a holiday weekend. I'd tell her you really need to know about it because you have a family event that you have to attend and want to make sure that they are not going to interfere with each other, because you would hate to disappoint either one of them.

Best to send them at least 3 months before the ceremony, or slightly longer if people from far away are invited (i.e. overseas).

Let your friend know that she should send out her invites 6 to 8 weeks before the wedding. Any later than that, she risks people having other plans and not being able to come. She shouldn't just assume people will come and will spread the word. She's causing her guests a big inconvenience by waiting.
