Things are starting to get a little hectic and need some help!!!We are looking for a wedding photographer around the Houston, TX area.Any newly weds with advice on picking a photographers? There are so many to choose from! What should I look for? What are the differences between photographers? How much is the average price (hourly or whole day)? What does a average wedding photography package include? What questions should we ask our potential photographer prior to booking them? Do I need a videographer? etc....Many of my friends said that the amount of $$ they spent on some capturing the entire wedding was not worth it, maybe clips and certain highlights of the actual ceremony. I have some friends who probably watched the video once and spent a couple of hundred of dollars on it. Whats your opinnion??If possible please send links to sites that may help us. Smile THANKS!!!

Have a look at craigslist.org - a number of photographers will advertise their services on the site by state. Most that advertise here will charge less than the norm.Arrange to meet a few photographers, you want to make sure you can work with them and that you click (excuse the pun). Ask to see their portfolio, discuss the type of photographs that you want. Don't automatically go for their packages as you may end up paying for more than you want or you may not like their albums they use. Ensure you get the 'negatives' or the right to reproduce the pictures if you can. It always costs a fortune if you want reprints for other relatives.I have added a link which shows you ways to save money with your photographer and videographer.Good luck with your plans!

We went to a wedding expo and checked out all the photographers and their photos. If you like their photos, then it's some assurance and insurance you'll like the photos they take of you. Most of them have websites too so you can check them out from there. Also ask around your friends and relatives who they used as their photographer. It's also important that you get along with your photographer. If you don't like him/her, you're not likely to smile for them on the day.It can get very expensive, so it's important to ask them what they cover i.e. is it X hours, is it up to the reception, halfway thru the reception or the whole thing. You'll also need to tell them how much time you have to take the photos (between the ceremony & reception) - find out how many locations they're willing to go to - some will charge extra for more than 2 or 3 locations. Also what do you get in return - how big is the album, how many prints do you get. Ask if you get the hi-res copies of your photos and when. I'm not sure about in the US, but here in Sydney, Australia, it's pretty standard to get your photos after 1-2 years. Also find out whether or not they'll do a pre-wedding shoot of the two of you. We've gone against getting a videographer and instead getting a couple of friends to do it. Think about it, if you hire a professional, you'll just get what you experienced on the day... whereas with your friends, you'll get to see how they enjoyed your day and what they thought of your wedding. Plus your friends are more likely to know who the important ppl are to "interview" them. But it's really up to you what you want out of it.

Take a look at http://www.myhoustonwedding.com and the local boards at http://talk.theknot.com for ideas. The ladies at the Knot are helpful, on tight budgets, and can help you weed out the good vendors from the bad.
