my fiance and i arent really big into the whole wedding thing, so we've come up with alternative. whatcha think: we are going to get married at court, wearing shirts that say "bride" and "groom"; then we want to rent out a piece of the woods and have a big ol' BBQ, at which time we will be wearing shirts that say "wife" and "husband"; the BBQ will include decorations, food, and a DJ...plus volley ball net, and other outdoor stuff there; all the guest will be dressed in causal attire (the food will be causal as well.....chicken, hotdogs, hamburgers---BBQ food); i will still have the father/daughter dance and the dance with my then-husband and all that traditional stuff. how much you think it will cost?i know his family will go CRAZY, but it's what we want.PS. later during the BBQ, i will change into a cute white sundress...i'm the only one that is wearing white!PPS. we do NOT expect gifts or anything for our wedding; we just want to celebrate with ALL of friends and familyDisturbed: i dont why you got thumbs down either; it's your opinion for goodness sake!def. a female! i'm just not into the whole hoopla of weddings...it think it's just a gimmick! flowers are more expensive;food more expesnive...just when you say WEDDING! but i still want to have a good time and dance drink and have fun with friends and family!i dont want a wedding dress. i like getting dressed up, but in in-style clothes, not ball room clothesyou got to understand too, i didnt go to my junior prom, prom, high school graduation or college graduation....i'm not into the big hoopla; i just like celebrating with friends and family and be comfortable and happy! dont get me wrong, i like my high heels and all, but just not the ball room wedding dresses thing.i really think our wedding will be remembered and i know we'll be happy with it. ps. our 4 week old son will be wearing one of those tux shirt...it will make the cutest pics!def. having free alochol!!! but not so much a bartender, as kegs and wine coolers and hard liquor...is ice buckets...adding to the the whole BBQ feel to it.

Honestly it sounds fun. A lot more fun than those boring 2 hour church services followed by an uppity reception with a ridiculous price per plate with a boring type ochestra playing. Im so untraditional though, so I would think its cool to step outside the box. It is your wedding and you should be able to do whatever you want.

that sounds awesome!! If you aren't wedding ppl, why be something you aren't and have a huge bill to show for it. If that is what you want, than his parents will have to stand for it, especially if you are paying. I think you could pull all this off, for about 1500 dollars. The dj would probably be the most, especially if you went to a public park. Sounds like a great day, and really fun!! But sidenote, gifts are a way for ppl to give to you...don't tell them not to get you anything. They probably understand that you are the laid back type, but it's nice for them to help you start your lives together. Congrats, and I love the individuality of it all!! It's starting to make me wish we'd done something like that considering our bill!! Smile

I LOVE ITI have already told DH that if I don't get my dream vow renewal where I want - then I will get my dream reception - a BBQ with Games and fun stuff like that.Depending upon where you live you can always checkout BBQ restaurants and ask if they do catering and any sites they recoomend. If you are in florida I have a great place for you.

I think that it sounds wonderful. You should be able to pull that off for under $2000.00. Remember you will still need to rent tables of some sort, and porta-potty's.Have fun! Congrats!

i think it's a nice idea, especially if you're on a tight budget. i saw an answerer say she had a bbq at home that was catered by a friend that cost $500. a civil ceremony is probably gonna cost less than $50 for the marriage license and stuff.congratulations and best wishes!

God that sounds almost perfect! Honestly, I'm trying to persuade my fiance to do something like that too! (but not the shirts, they are funny, but don't you want to look pretty in a white dress?) It'll be so so cheap, only a couple of thousand if you are supplying all the food and booze. But where will the people stay, you can't really expect everyone to camp, make sure there is a hotel within staggering distance. Will you get a pig roast spit? Then it really will be perfect... best of luck here! A wedding in the woods, I'm going to suggest that one now....

That sounds like a lot of fun. You are probably looking at $3,000-$5,000, depending on the food and liquor.Happy Planning!

As a compromise to "his" side of the family going crazy you could be a little more dressed up at the courthouse.....all in all it's your wedding, and you should call the shots. Sounds like a great way to start a marriage, lots of fun, comfortable, and good food!

You can do that for $500.00-$800.00 easy. Are you going to have alcohol? That could up the cost..but the DJ is the bulk of that. I think that's a great idea..very similar to what my boyfriend and I talked about doing when we get married. It's all about you and him..not everyone else..good luck!
