That sounds great to me. Sorta like what we're having when we get back. We are doing a destination/elopment wedding in 9 days, just the 2 of us.Then when we get back, we're going to have a back yard party. Pizza/wings, shrimp/crab boil.... Very casual, very us!As for cost, it really depends on how many people you have there, if you have it catered by a BBQ place, and how much you want to spend on the DJ and decorations.I'm estimating that my party will be about $1000, at my house. Good luck, and Congratulations!

I think it sounds like a good time. If that is they style of wedding you want then go for it. As for how much it will cost I cannot imagine how you would assume for anyone to guess that when we do not know where you live, where the party will be, how many people will be there, how many people you expect to feed.....list everything you want and start calling around.

It sounds really nice!! I wonder if you can still hire a wedding planner (or get a friend to volunteer) b/c you don't want to be responsible for all the setup/teardown on your wedding day. Maybe everyone will just pitch in? Honestly it sounds like a really nice & fun plan. There are some cute things you can do (t-shirt idea included) that can make it be fun, cheap & still remind people that it's a wedding & you are vowing to spend your lives together. But I say if that's your speed & that's what you want - then Do it!! It's your wedding!

Happypants, it sounds like you and your fiance are real down to earth people that would prefer to enjoy your special day instead of trying to impress others. Kudos to both of you.I think your wedding plans sound like a capital idea. Depending on how many guests you invite....the costs shouldn't be astronomical. You can buy your foods like the meat, buns and condiments in bulk and save a LOT of money that way. Serve ice tea as your main beverage and that would be inexpensive. Or a nice punch. If you have beer, that will of course cost more, but you can get kegs. Maybe some of your relatives can make things like the salads and baked beans. Which would save money. The wedding cake would probably be your most expensive food product. If you have a "Dollar Tree" close to you, you can get paper table clothes real cheap there along with napkins, etc. Or even a Sam's or Costco. I love the shirts idea...bride/groom then husband/wife. That is really clever. .... Happy...it doesn't matter what his parents think darlin. This is YOUR special day. If this is what you and your fiance want....go for it. You will have a heck of a lot more fun by doing it your way than capitulating to someone else's idea of a wedding. Just think of the great pics you will have too. Everyone will be relaxed...no postured behavior, no stuffy clothes. Fun time to be had by all. Congratulations and have a GREAT time..... |

I think that sounds like a lot of fun. Everyone's wedding should be a personalized experience, who says you have to be traditional? Go for it! It will be so much cheaper than a real wedding, and your parents will probably be thrilled to save so much money!!

rock on, the idea of the T shirts is awesome. if you spend a couple hundred bucks on food and beer that would be the max.

I don't see anything wrong with this if thats what you want. Its your day to do exactly the way You want. I have never seen it written that a wedding has to be big and expensive. Although it is usually like this.It sounds like you will have a very fun day and lots of great memories. Not to mention some great pictures.Congratulations!!

Where and How to Start?
There’s so much to do, it can be mind-numbing. Don’t worry. I planned and held my first wedding in two months and my second wedding in three months. If you have the luxury of a year or more, feel lucky!
Wedding Invitation
Ideally, invitations should be mailed out 6-8 weeks before the big day to give guests time to make arrangements to attend and RSVP back to you.
Wedding Attire
Where I come from, buying a tuxedo is virtually unheard of. Renting is probably the way to go to realize the ultimate savings on the groom’s attire.
Wedding Flowers
Cheap doesn't mean that your wedding flowers can't be beautiful. All flowers are lovely no matter what they cost.
Wedding Ceremony Decoration
Most wedding ceremonies are short and sweet, so why spend a majority...
Wedding Music
Music for your wedding ceremony could consist of live or recorded performances.
Wedding Photography
Pictures are priceless, and you want to be sure you have plenty of good pictures of your special day.
Wedding Favors
Some brides don’t like the idea of giving gifts to her guests, but we think it’s a nice gesture as a thank you...
Wedding Food
Wedding food can take a huge chunk out of your wedding budget.
Wedding Cake
Your wedding cake is the centerpiece of the reception. It is a scrumptious dessert as well as part of a tradition
Wedding Party
The question of whether or not to serve alcohol at your wedding is one that can cause dissension in the ranks of family.
