I spent most of the day helping a friend find a dress to wear to her daughters wedding. We didn't agree on much. The dress she bought,I feel, is inappropriate, she was so excited though I had to bite my tongue and go with it. I thought about purchasing 3 other dresses that , in my opinion, show class and style and would be perfect, having a celebration and letting the friends at the party vote on which dress to wear, no one knowing how I feel about the first one cause maybe it's just me who hates the dress. Do you think this is a good idea? I just don't know how to tell her and I would never want to hurt her feelings but she would stick out like a sore thumb and if it where my mom , I would be embarrassed. Help, how would you handle this? We have 2 months, thank goodness.

I think that would be very humiliating for your friend. Her choice of outfit is not a democratic one. If you really feel that it is inappropriate you need to say so. Once only, and if she doesn't listen to you, you need to let it drop.

Well if anyone elses says something about it, I would only suggest she wear a cover up such as a bolero, shall, or blazer if thats the problem.

find out what other people are wearing and describe the dresses to her, maybe she will start to realise and change it herself.or how about take her out again to get accessories and encourage her to get things that would make it more appropriate e.g. summer cardi/jacket. summer scarf.......

She is old enough to pick out her own dress for the event. And yes, a group vote on which dress she should wear is a little over the top and would definitely hurt her feelings. Sounds like you would rather her hate the dress she wears to the wedding than stick out like a sore thumb?? Remember, people will be looking at the bride, not her mother, and unless her choice is something in leather, most people will not even remember what she wore.

I would suggest to her that since it is her daughters wedding that she get her opinion on it before deciding. I know that that's what I am doing for my daughter's wedding.
