| What is your opinion on how much a formal education impacts your photography career vs. how much experience itself impacts it?For the past few years, I have been planning on starting a career in photography, and have been going to a university the past couple of years for a photography degree. I do some paid work in my spare time, and have shadowed for a wedding photographer multiple times in the past. I would really like to focus on wedding photography.I am wondering if it might be better to obtain my associate degree and then try to focus on making more of a living on my photography. Is experience a better teacher than a formal degree? Thanks in advance for sharing your opinion! |

| Since photography is a blend of the hard, cold technical camera skills and the artistic ability to compose in the camera, not later by cropping in the darkroom or using a photo program, taking formal classed shortens the time necessary to become a competent photographer and can prevent learning bad habits.An Associate Degree is a good start and there are many excellent instructors that can guide you through the morass of technical issues unique to photography.After you have accomplished this first part of "becoming" a photographer, you can then become an assistant to a successful photographer and learn all the details of becoming a competent photographer as well as the business of owning and operating a successful studio |

| im not a professional and i don't do alot of photography either. once you have a degree in direct relation to your chosen career, then you have proper qualifications for your line of work. if you are going to do photography professionally, your clients will base their choice on how qualified are you. experience is always the best teacher but credentials with good education background will get you to places. (based from experiences) |

| Getting a second degree in business admin will help you to run your own business profitably.I'm not a pro, just using common sense.Good luck. |
