| So my future MIL came over to talk about the wedding, and said that she doesn't think it would be a good idea to have the wedding in her backyard (May 10th, 2008). I just got this terrible sinking feeling like everything was going wrong. But then she offered her church, which was $300 which includes the rental of the church, reception area, tables, chairs, silverwear, minister, and people to set it up and take it down. But my questions are:Any non-christian/catholic people get married in a church? How was it?And I just bought a 3-month tanning package to Desert Sun Tanning. I decided to start now, is that a good idea? And should I tan up until my wedding, or stop a week or so before?I appreciate all your help, thanks! |

| be careful on the tanning.. it gets addicting. either keep yourself in check, or have people who will tell you the truth and when its time to stop. but it all will depend on your skin and how dark you want to be. |

| I would talk with the minister of the church. Your future MIL was being very generous by arranging this, however the church minister may feel obliged to include things in the service you simply don't agree with. Outside of that, it's a heck of a deal, and I'd jump at it after checking out the officiant. And churches have people get married in them all the time who are not members of their congregation/faith. Just be sure your very clear with the officiant what will and will not be included in your wedding service. Also, check on pre-marriage classes--some churches require them, some don't. I'm not a huge fan of tanning--but that's me. I wouldn't go too drastic of a tan though--you want to look like yourself at the wedding, not like you've spent a month in the Carribean. |

| I've never used a tanning salon or spray-on tan, but my guess would be that you should stop a week or so before the wedding....you want to make sure that something doesn't go wrong in that last week. If something goes wrong a week or so ahead of time, at least you have some time for it to fade and for you to go to a doc/cosmetic technician and see what can be done in terms of fixing/covering up any problems.With regard to the "getting married in a church" bit, it depends entirely on the church and how flexible they are. What kind of church does she belong to? Unitarian Universalists will marry anybody, but some churches you not only have to be affiliated with their denomination, but you also have to be a member. Are they fairly liberal about these things or are they more conservative? It depends not only on the denomination of Christianity, but also on the specific community as to what their rules are. I'm not Christian, but I am getting married in my fiance's church because he is an active member and is close to the clergy there. |

| Do not tan... a little bit of UV rays go a LONG way towards damaging your skin. I went to an airbrush tanner the day before the wedding and everyone remarked about how awesome my tan was, even though I hadn't spent a day in the sun (skin cancer runs in my family). | My husband & I got married in a catholic church almost 8 yrs ago. I had all the requirements baptism, first communion & confirmation. My hubby didn't so he did all the requirements. It was an hour long ceremony with a mass. Very nice but too long. Now we never go to church. If I got married again-no church this time. I never went tanning before so I'd say just be careful. | Well, she may have offered her church as a suggestion, but you and your fiance will have to set an appointment to speak with the minister.What denomination is it? And, is your fiance a member of that church also? Some ministers will marry non-members (as a favor to the member....in this case...your soon to be mother-in-law). However, there is a big difference in marrying a non-member and marrying a person who is non-Christian. You will need to speak with the minister and share your beliefs (or non-beliefs) and see if he will still marry you. Again, it was nice of your mother-in-law to offer, but ultimately, it is the decision of the pastor/minister to marry you. (I work in a Lutheran Church as the secretary and deal with lots of calls from brides regarding weddings.) |

| It depends on the church. There are nondenom churches and then there are churches that allow weddings of non members, wich is what it sounds like this church would be. They just charge a fee for the wedding. With it being so close, make sure the date and the minister is available. Most dates are reserved far in advance. As for tanning, don't become a tan aholic, it looks nasty. Stay out of the tanning bed the week before, not a good idea. A number of things can go wrong with that. Instead, go to the spa, get a pedicure, get your nails done, make sure your hair is colored the week before if you color, do your brows a couple of days ahead. Do not do these things within 2 days, you never know if you will have a wierd reaction to things that you have never had before. |
