Wow, I pretty much have the same credentials as you almost, but I'm a high school senior. I applied to Boston University as well and I'm still waiting (4/15) to see if I got in or not. I think you have a pretty good shot, but with college admissions, you never know. People with a lower GPA can get in the school and the school can reject someone with the higher GPA. If your looking at Pepperdine, apply to Occidental College too! I got in there last week with a 30K scholarship! I would definitely think you have a shot there... Just keep up the good work throughout next year and don't procrastinate writing the college essays and such (I so regret doing that ! lol) Good luck! Hope I helped out at least a little...

The first thing to do is become acquainted with some of the schools out there. For that check out:http://www.nytimes.com/2006/07/30/education/edlife/gems.html?_r=2&pagewanted=1&sq=20%20Hidden%20Gems&st=nyt&scp=1&oref=sloginNow you have got a feel for some the schools go to:http://www.collegeboard.com/student/csearch/index.htmlUse it to find similar schools to those in the article above and ferret out more choices. Home in on a few schools that you like. Go to those schools web sites and learn more about the schools. Once you know a bit about them drop a few of them (3 - 4) a line about getting admitted. Schools usually love it when you show an interest. Then simply do what they suggest. For example, it may come as a surprise, but schools often don't actually like AP - they prefer Honors classes. I see people taking heaps of AP - but it may actually be a turn off to schools. Experts who post a lot around here - like Neniaf - recon 3-4 AP is more than enough. Just one example of how getting in touch with schools can save you in counterproductive effort. Ok now to the schools I like for you. With grades like that consider schools like Carleton as your first choice:http://www.carleton.edu/Acceptance rate: 29 percent. Carleton’s Frisbee prowess may be matched only by the high number of students who go on to earn doctorates, particularly in math and science. When the winter snow finally recedes, students break out the flying discs in serious club competitions. Who said Carletonians were nerdy and cerebral? “Carleton is a place where able and intelligent students with a quirky sense of humor would go,” says Mr. Longanecker of the Western Interstate Commission. Carleton’s scholarship is well documented. It ranks behind only Williams, Amherst, Swarthmore and Wellesley as best liberal arts college in the country, according to U.S. News & World Report, and is equally selective. It may be a bit of a stretch with your class rank and sats - but your grades actually aren't that bad - on the contrary - quite good actually. I suspect you are in a rather tough class - maybe a magnet school or something like that. The large number of students that go on to get PhDs is very encouraging for your future aspirations. As your middle choices look into Wooster, one of the SUNY's, Pepperdine, or Boston U. I believe you have a reasonable shot at those (not a shoe in - but better than Carleton - and the next poster is correct about your SATs). But Wooster and the Suny's are not as bad for SATs so your chances are better there. As a safety think about a school like Evergreen - they let in nearly everyone.ThanksBill

Your GPA is pretty good but you need to bring up your SAT scores *a lot* to even consider those schools. Your math score should be about 650. Your reading score should be 640. Your writing should be 670. And those scores are in the middle of what Pepperdine and Boston go for, so you should shoot for higher.Since you have low scores on all parts of the SAT, I'd suggest that you take a class. You'll also need to work on your own. You should read a lot more, that'll improve both the reading and writing scores. Talk to your English teacher about your writing. Get a book for SAT math.
