I am just curious to see how couples are paying for their wedding.....will it be all your money you saved, Mommy and Daddy, loans, credit cards, etc?My Fiance and I are using all of our own money that we have been saving in a Money Market account. I don't believe in starting out a marriage with debt and credit card bills for a wedding. My Dad wants to pay for half of it, but I don't belive its his obligation to pay...Just curious to see what other people are doing. Thanks! Surprised)I just couldn't imagine taking even a dollar from my Father wether he can afford it or not which I am sure he can if he is offering especially since our wedding will probably be about $20,000.00 (which is our budget for now)I am the only child so I know he feels he wants to and needs to but he raised me as my Mother and Father on a single income and that's why I just don't see taking any money from him on our behalf. Maybe, if he wants, he can pay for my dress or something of his choice.Thank for all the wonderful answers. Believe it or not, this has been a big and emotional issue for me.

My parents did the old fashioned traditional thing by paying for everything except for the rehearsal dinner.

Ypou should accept your dad's offer. Weddings can get very expensive and the expenses keep getting higher and higher the closer you get to the big day. I say if someone wants to help out, let them.

"If it ain't gonna last more than four hours, we don't need the best one," was our agreement. We didn't have a lot of money either, and didn't need a lavish wedding that was going to break us. We'd rather buy a house! Top dollar went toward the pictures, honeymoon and rings. You could accept money from your dad. It doesn't make you an ingrate. He's been down this road and knows how expensive it is. Probably wants the best for his baby! Just make sure it doesn't break him.

your the bride so back long ago it was the brides parents that pay for the wedding and the grooms parents pay for the rehearsal...now a days its who ever has the money...your dad is allowed to pay if he wants, if you dont want that, then use the money on the honeymoon...for us we used my parents money and a credit card and a bit from my husbands parents..

my hubby and i got married last year, we managed to pay for half of it then tried to get a loan for the rest, but it never came through on time so bank of mummy to the rescue. after a few months from the wedding i was diagnosed with a critical illness so life insurance paid bank of mummy off, so we were lucky but not at the same time for finances.our wedding cost £10,000 including holiday and spending money

I think if both families helped out no one is going to be in debt

Ahhh.. Your Dad has waited all these years to walk his little girl down the aisle. He has planned all these years to paay for it too! Don't deprive him of helping to pay for it.For centuries, Dads have been paying for their daughter's weddings. It's a tradition of long-standing.Dads used to give the husband cows and chickens. Money is so much easier.I'm so old I think my wife's family gave us 2 chickens and a goat. Please, please, please, if Dad offers, don't turn him down! Say, "THANKS DADDY! I LOVE YOU!"Then you have some money left from your money market account to start your new family.

Traditionally the Brides parents pay for the wedding and the grooms parents pay for the receptionBut . . .when you don't have that maybe you should consider Elegance on any Budget :)eleganceonanybudget.com

Could I adopt you please?? I wish more women and men thought the way you do. My husband and I love our children to pieces, but we are drowning with college costs. We told them that we'd either pay for college or a wedding and, luckily, they all chose college. But I can still see the day coming when one of them gets engaged and the wedding costs start coming up. My husband and I would, of course, help... but we can't afford to pay for a huge wedding. So bless you, bless you, bless you. And bless your father! You should take some of his help - he'll be pleased that he can help out. Maybe ask him to cover the cost of the cake and limo (something specific). Congrats!!
