I have never seen this practice in real life at any of the weddings I have attended. I'm just curious as to why people do it. Usually the main wedding dress is expensive on its own and most brides say they want to wear it as long as they can. Since they aren't cheap, why get a dress that you aren't comfortable wearing for a long period of time or that is too big and bulky? Is it because those are the only dresses available on the market and no one wants to get a dress that is comfortable but pretty even if they have to get it custom made to do away with the bulkiness that makes them go for the lighterweight reception dress instead?

Some women choose to wear a gown that looks beautiful but can be very uncomfortable so they change their clothes for the reception....

When people have more money than they know what to do with. Frivolous spending, in my opinion. I'm wearing my wedding dress as long as possible! And I made sure it was something I'd be comfortable in for a few hours before I bought it. O well, if people have the money, they can choose what to spend it on.

The last 2 weddings i've been to the brides change their dresses for the reception. what my opinion is of it becoming more popular is that receptions are becoming more of a party and the girls still want the big cinderella dress for their church wedding but something more comfortable to party the night away. The weddings i've been to have been like that where after the cake is cut it's pretty much a party so you dance all you want.I was going to do that but i'm not sure if i'll do it now. My dress is alittle more than what i though i was spending so i would rather keep it on the whole night.

I'm not sure either.....but i think this is a trend for the brides who can't decide on one look for their day.i will be wearing my expensive dress all day! it cost too much money to wear for a ceremony and pictures. so i will be prancing off to the honeymoon suite all done up in taffeta.i am thinking of changing my veil for the reception. take off the traditional one and don a birdcage with feather flourishes. it wouldn't cover my entire face, just angled over one eye.aside from that, I'll be in the same attire from the moment i put it on, til i take it off that nite......though i am beginning to wonder.......is my groom responsible for helping me out of my dress?hmmmm........

Well yea I'm having separate dresses. This is because I want to dress up in as many different gorgeous dresses, styles, colours & fashion as possible. It is my big day and this is the one chance that I get to wear as many amazing dresses as I want all in one day! I have the money to, so why not? All my dresses are comfy, I've had them all custom made so I love them all the same, and they fit each venue / occassion perfectly.

It started because the bride's parents had the $ and didn't have the willpower to say "no" to their daughter's wishes. Dresses can generally be bustled for dancing or trains can be removed - so that's not a reason. BTW, these girls are known as "bridezillas."
