How much did your wedding cost you? Plus another question: Did your parents pay for the whole thing or what? How does it work with divorced parents. If an 18 year old is getting married and the mother offers to pay for an expensive dress, and the father does not know about it (keep in mind divorced) and also offers to give her $1000 toward the wedding, does it seem right to ask the father later for half of all of that and then expect him to pay for the rest? Mother and father divorced but she is remarried. This is not my family, I was asking for someone else, a friend. By the way, they told the father it was going to be one of them dresses that was on sale, then opted for a very expensive one. They live in Texas. Hope these questions make sense. Cannot correct it because the computer is messed up.

She needs to find out what she wants for her wedding, find out how much everything will cost, then talk to both parents and come to an agreement about how they want to split it (preferably together, face to face or 3 way calling, makes it easier to discuss). My parents split the cost evenly (also divorced) but they knew how much it was going to cost before hand. Don't surprise them (like telling dad dress wouldn't be expensive, but then it was, that's inconsiderate if he's expected to help pay for it). Yes they paid for everything, but is was a small simple wedding with about 50 people

I got married when I was 21. My husband's parents are divorced and both are remarried. MY parents didn't want to be involved in any way (they are very religious and thought I was being bad).ANYWAY, my wedding was less than $1000. I bought rolls of tulle in my wedding colors on ebay and stretched them out to create a really inexpensive, streamer-like canopy. We borrowed chairs from our church, created our own centerpieces, and the only things we paid for were our rented tablecloths, my wedding dress, and some gorgeous flower arrangements. My husband's mom offered to help a TON with our wedding, and then his dad got involved, too, and it was kinda awkward trying to tell one person that the other person already paid for this thing or that thing. In the end, we decided to accept whatever help anyone offered and let EVERYONE be involved. They want to be a part of the wedding. Let them help as much as they want. And don't be afraid to ask for more help, either! The worst they can do is say 'no'!

When I was married at 20, I paid for everything myself, and it cost about $500.I thought if I'm old enough to be married, I'm old enough to pay my own bills. The day isn't about money, it's about love.Who cares how expensive your dress is?? It is wrong to mislead the dad, just horrible. She should be ashamed. Expensive weddings like that are thrownbacks to a bygone era, where the girl was literally 'given away', and had her husband picked FOR her, and had to have a big dowry to get the 'good ones'; just like diamond rings....it was and is territorial marking. These things are still romanticized but are really rather primitive. Google it....!
