what is the policy on absenteeism and calling in?is the use of e-mail accepted?two Wednesdays in a row regardless of reason is excessive absenteeism and should be dealt with through counseling to improve the employees performance as well as to clearly state the policy so the employee understands.as far as anger goes it serves no purpose. communicate the expectations and hold employees accountable for their performance. communicate when expectations are met and when they aren't.

Yes, because it is an imposition & sending emails to report you aren't coming to work should be reconsidered in the workplace, unless maybe the person works out of the country for you & there is a different time zone. But, an outburst of anger would NOT be good. Just let them know you will not tolerate this behavior any longer.Something is going on during this employees Tuesday nights (too much partying?).I would reprimand him. Let him know if it happens again, you will give him an additional three days off without pay, as punishment for his inconsiderate actions. Or, you can warn him that if it happens again, he will be terminated.Just an idea-hope I was able to offer some ideas or insight into the situation. Good Luck!Oh, & there are plenty of people looking for jobs out there, so I am certain you could find a replacement for him without any trouble; although, throughout this process, I realize it is a great burden upon the employer/management, but...that is why the manager is the manager & gets paid more. Unfortunately, that means that the manager is responsible for picking up the slack on this persons failure to be dependable.

Are the employees allowed to e-mail instead of calling...so are u upset because of the email or because its been two wednesdays in row? Maybe she emails as soon as she realizes she can't come to work because she may be sick in bed asleep at the time she would need to call. Also Im asuming you didnt tell her the last time she emailed you that you want her to call you instead of emailing you! If you dont like the emailing than post a note stating that if they are not coming to work that they must call and at what time frame they must call in. Make it clear your policies on sick days, how many sick days, doctors notes etc. Your the boss, just be fair but stick with your rules, there may be room for exceptions but generally stick to the rules.
