I was real sick w/a virus, emailed in sick last wed. morning from a bad virus. [never had I missed a day due to being sick this past yr.]she got mad, leaving a nasty "toned" message to call her.when I woke up from being ill called her. all she asked is if I'd be in tomorrow. I said most likely yes.So I was.next wed. the SAME thing. same virus/relapse, felt even WORSE. So truthfully, honestly went to the ER.Left her an email at 5am saying I'd be at the hospital was really ill.She really actually didn't care.she was just mad, took me OFF the schedule, didn't call or email me it turned out later. So Later that day called her.she wouldn't answer whether or not I could work or not the following week, just saying to me "Monday, we have something very important to talk about". and said goodbye, hung up.WELL, This is a sales rep/merchandising position. She emails everybody mornings when she gets up. and checks her emails at like at 6-7am.she never said, "You have to call"

It's unprofessional to email an absence from work. However, some people have the balls to do it. A friend of mine text messaged her boss that she had a doctor's appointment and wouldn't be able to come in. Needless, to say her boss told her don't bother to come back.

I think that some bosses feel that it takes more energy to type up and email something than it would to pick up the phone and dial a few numbers. They might come to the conclusion someone was being evasive therefore not really sick. Not necessarily true, but that is the way some people think.

Gee, I hope you are feeling better. Some people are cool with emails and others need to hear your voice. After the first time and her nasty tone, I would assume she was not cool with just an email and call her. Plus you can cough or so during the phone call lol. I hope she dosen't fire you!! And I'm sorry you are not feeling well--get better and next time call! Very Happy

emailing is unprofessional same with texting *I texted in sick and got a huge lecture*they want you to call so they can see if you're lying or not about being sick...your tone changes when you are lying and your responses are really short and quick plus the coughing- real or fake? see!

I agree it isn't professional to send a message by email . Also if you can send an email from computor she is going to think you are fit for work. You should either call her or send in your sick note.

It is proper procedure to call in. Sometimes if she didnt get the chance to open the email until later, she would not know if you were going to be out until later. If you didnt want to talk to her, you can call really early in the morning, so you know you will get the machine and not her. Good luck, hope you feel better.
