They, like many othercompanies, are ofgreat benefit to the flow community. I was suggesting that we be abit relaxed inour willingness to accept subtle advertising in general --- becausewe can benefitfrom being able to get advice directly from people who are at theforefront of flowdevelopment. Obviously, knowing where to draw the line can bedifficult.....AliceAlice L. You can organizeallyou want on eliminating the pest, but until they put a stamp tax onemail, a better approach is to let themessages be out there, but have them filtered to oblivion before youever see them.In your case, the postmaster at Purdue is probably already filteringmillions of messages a day that come to the thousands of email usersoncampus. They are probably capable of shutting down any RNWAY mail, andspreading the word to other postmasters that they also should filterthose messages. So if you can get the IT people at the university to tighten theirsieve, that's best. Otherwise you have to switch to an email programthat has good junk filters. I think I get 500+ messages a day, andonly 10 to 20 make it past the junk filter.Until last summer I was using Outlook Express and spam was a hugeproblem. Since then I switched to the free Mail program in OS X,whichjust added special features for spam detection and removal. Itsprobably 97% effective, and I haven't found any false positives. So, of course, the best answer is to get a Mac SmileI'm sure the PC mail clients are addressing this issue as well. Ibelieve there are central databases of offenders so programs canlearnfrom others which messages to delete. I would imagine this is themost important feature in any email program sold these days, so I betEudora or other third party mail programs have this solved. There's a lot of information on the subject at:http://spam.abuse.net/Whether you fight the problem on the server or the client, itdefinitely is worth getting it cleaned up. I found it screwed up mywhole communications process because every time I wanted check email,Ihad to wade through dozens or hundreds of useless ads.Adam---------------------------------------------------Adam Treistera...@treestar.comwww.flowjo.com 800-366-6045------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------¬-----Next message: PAUL HALLBERG: "Summary: Sorting CHO cells"Previous message: Mojgan Shaiegan: "RBC phenotyping by flow"In reply to: J.Paul Robinson: "EMAIL ABUSE - how to stop"Messages sorted by: [ date ] [ thread ] [ subject ] [ author ][ attachment ]---------------------------------------------------------------------------¬-----This archive was generated by hypermail 2.1.6 : Thu Jan 01 2004 -17:42:13 ESTNever tried to get hired of fired but just tried to introduce software to Purdue and got called SCAMMERS for no reason. I don't think so. It sounds like they were disputing whether a participant's posts were over the line -- more advertisement than participation -- and seemed to agree that they weren't.

Okay. Near as I can tell, you think you are being discriminated against in the hiring process at Purdue Cytometry. You are posting numerous questions containing a jumble of copy pulled from numerous sources without giving us any reference as to where they can come and how each part relates to any other part. The result is incomprehensible. If you have not been hired, or you have been fired, please consider that it may be due to your complete inability to express yourself in a way that can be understood. That is not illegal discrimination.EDIT - what you appear to want is the right to access a private member mailing list to sell your own software. You don't have that right. And you certainly don't have the right to hack into the Purdue system in search of hidden code that will give you access to their mailing list after you have been denied. You appear to be breaking the law and posting proof of your crimes all over Yahoo Answers. It might be a good time to quit while you are ahead.
