Hello everyone. as my fellow NY parents know( and maybe in other places) there is no school this week. I want to the kids to the zoo. Should I go on Wednsday, or just fork over the $100 and go on thursday? I know it will be crowded on Wed, but will all the attractions be open. Im from the bronx but have not been to the zoo in years. I hear now you can't just walk in you have to stand on a line or something. Is the food really expensive? And what attractions are MUST SEE. thanks everyoneOh yeah can any possibly direct to promo codes for discounts?? thanx

You should look into getting a membership to the Zoo - you can pay one price for a family membership and that comes with free parking, discounts for food and merchandise:http://www.wcs.org/getinvolved/become_member/member_benefits?preview=&psid=&ph=class%3Dawc-148772/2Although it will be crowded this week, the one upside is that there won't be any big school groups since schools are closed. I think it seems less crowded on the days that there are no big school/camp groups there.

Go on Wed. Too expensive to go when you have to pay. The food is outrageously expensive pack sandwiches.Plenty of newer exhibits just walk around. Some of the newer exhibits charge an additional admission. The line is shorter if you go in the entrance on southern blvd and 180 st.Enjoy.

I do have a membership to the Bronx Zoo and was just there recently. From what I remember, the Wild Asia monorail wasn't open yet (it should open sometime next week) and neither was the Skyfari (though when I went, workers were inspecting cables so it should work now). With the exception of an area near the sea lions under construction...all of the other exhibits aside from the monorail were open. And yep, Wednesday is crowded since it is "suggested donation" (but most people go in for free). The food prices are pretty up there (as a family of three with a discount we've paid over $30 for lunch.) You could always "brown bag" it with a sandwich or something. The gorilla and tiger exhibits have always been a favorite of mine. Also, the walk in exhibit at Wild Asia that looks like a rainforest is another cool must see!
