| We are Americans planning a wedding for the countryside of England. We are hoping to have a lunch reception (ceremony at 12, hour of hor'dourves, seated lunch until 3.30) And then dancing until 7. Most of the packages at castles we noticed that there is an option to have an after lunch buffet of sandwiches, little bite sized foods, etc.Is this a fairly common practice in the UK *or even the US as I am not familiar with lunch reception*? And if so how does it work do these foods get left out during dancing, and replenished? (I will call but I can't until Monday morning so I figured I would ask here)Oh its a 4 course lunch large meal. The time is only because we are all staying in london so we would like to get our guests back to the city around 8 so they can enjoy their evening.Starter, Soup, Main, Cheese boardAnd of course desserts. I thought it would be nice so you dont get hungry while you are dancing and all.Oh no, no lunch is served until 3.30 (startings at 2.15). Pictures are during the canape hour. |

| 12 to 7 is a long time to go on just lunch as it is considered a very light meal and many people eat dinner before 7 although hardly any eat lunch at 2-3. When does the lunch start and what does it consist of? If it is a heavy meal and especially if it served mid-day (until 3:30) then you don't need the after-lunch buffet. No it is not common practice in the US to do so. |

What are you doing between the hour of hors d'oeuvres and the seated lunch? If you ceremony is lengthy (mass, sermon, etc.) that might carry you to 1:00. An hour of hor d'oeuvres would take you to 2:00. What happens between 2:00 and 3:30? Even if you are doing pictures during that time, you will need a way to entertain your guests.I think you should do pictures during the hor d'oeuvres and move the lunch time up.[EDIT: Oh, okay. I see that I misread. Scratch all of the above!  ] And definitely take advantage of the after-lunch buffet option. A late lunch would usually mean a late dinner with no snack between the two would be fine, but a wedding is different. People will be dancing and drinking and will need to replenish their energy by taking in more nutrients, and some people will need a bit of food to keep from imbibing too much.I don't know if the after-lunch buffet is common or not, but if most of the packages offer it, it sounds as though it is. Regardless, it's eminently practical. |
