I am getting married 11/29/08 and haven't gone to try on wedding gowns yet. I am wanting to slim down and tone up before doing so and hopefully will have less alterations. I am thinking of starting to shop for a gown in June or July. Is this too late to start trying on gowns? Also, I was wondering... are we supposed to tip vendors such as the DJ and photographer on top of their fees?

ya you should tip them if they are really good..but you've got time try "sliming down", if you will, and see how dresses fit you after your nice and slender

Depending on the manufacturer/designer, you might need to shop now. It would be horrible to find "the dress" and not be able to get it because they can't get it too you in time. Either that, or what you save in alterations will be more than made up for if you have to pay rush shipping charges.Photographer, no. DJ, only if he does a great job of keeping your guests entertained all night. If half the guests are gone 30 minutes into the dance, then no. If you have a full house begging him to keep the party going, then definitely!!!

I think shopping for your dress in June or July should be fine...I bought my dress 3 months before my wedding...you could however start window shopping to get more of any idea of what you want!I am not tipping the Dj or photographer, I'm paying them a ton of money, providing them with food and maybe alcohol... they can tip themselves Smile

June or July is cutting it kind of close, but if you go to a place like David's they could probably get it in in time. As for the tipping, some require it, some don't. Check your contracts, and if they do a good job feel free to tip if you can afford to.

You should be fine to wait until June or July. Every dress that I have tried on fit perfectly and I do not have a perfect body. If you do need alterations- my wedding shop said 8 weeks before the date would work fine. Hope this helps.I do not know about tipping- good question to ask seeing my wedding is in august!

A lot of places say it takes about 4 months for your dress to come in once it's ordered, then you have to give yourself time for alterations so I would start in April or May. Also, only tip who you think did a good job. Honestly, I didn't tip anyone who had set prices. I'm sure they work their own tip including in their already outrageous prices. The only people I tipped was the hair stylists and make-up lady. Then the lady who coordinated the wedding/caterer, I just gave a nice bottle of wine. Also, tip drivers. I personally wouldn't tip the florists, photographer, videographer or DJ's.

You need to start shopping for your dress now. Most dresses take 4-6 months to come in after ordering them and then you need to allow a couple of months for fittings. Start looking now and buy when you find the one. It's better to have your dress in the size you are now and have it taken in, than waiting too long and have to pay extra for rush charges and maybe even more rush charges for alterations. You can still slim down and tone up while waiting for your dress to arrive and before you have your fitting. I don't think taking the dress in a few inches more would make a huge difference in the cost. I would start looking now. I ordered my dress in May of 07 and it didn't arrive until December. Over 6 months! Better safe than sorry!About the DJ and photographer-I would say yes for the DJ especially if they do a great job. Photographer I wouldn't. For the photographer a nice card after the wedding and you have received your photos would be a nice gesture. A lot of times they like to post these kinds of things on their website or offer them to be on their list of recommendations. There is an article on the knot that goes into a lot of detail about all the vendors you should tip or not. You do offer a meal for the both of them though. At least I have always known this as the proper thing to do. http://www.theknot.com/ch_qaarticle.html?Object=AI980914201638&_ref=searchhttp://www.theknot.com/ch_article.html?Object=AI980914212902&keywordType=&keywordID=&parentID=&_ref=searchAlso remember check with your vendors some already include gratuity in the service bill! Hope this helps!

Dresses can take 6-12 weeks to come in. Sometimes longer. Honestly, I would start looking now for something. I think June/July is a little late.

I think you can wait to buy the dress, but you should take a look and find something you like. Tipping should be like it is in a restaurant. If your happy with the service then do it. If not.....

You should probably try them on sooner than later, and maybe meet with a nutritionist who can give you accurate goals, and size possibilites if you want to buy a dress that is too small now, but "should" fit...but that is risky. It takes a few months to get the dress you order, unless you are confident you can buy it right off the rack. Buying a smaller size, that is accurate for your body type might be good, because it will always motivate you to keep working, so you fit it. Good luck, it's a tough one!!
