I am already paying an 18% gratuity to the catering hall, so I am guessing that covers the wait staff and others there, but what should I tip on top of that to my maitre'd and/or bridal assistant? And what is appropriate to tip my vendors (photographer, video, dj)? People say 15%, but that would mean like 500 dollars for my photographer and that's just ridiculous if you ask me. Also, keep in mind, I am paying half price which comes to 52 dollars a head for them to eat at the reception as well. I have budgeted for tipping, but I don't want to under nor overtip. Also remember, NY weddings are more expensive than the average wedding in America. I'm not saying they're better, so please don't be insulted, just cost more. Please help!!

And so what? Do you not tip your waiter at a four star resturant because the meal costs more than something from TGI Friday's?You pay for those people to eat at your reception because they are WORKING FOR YOU! Unlike a regular job they don't get breaks and they can't go run and grab something to eat on their own. Of course you could let them do that instead of paying the 52 a head but then you'll have to accept you will be without that person for like an hour. From the sound of things the maitre'd is employed by your hall so his tip is included in the pre-paid tip.Just set a limit, say $300. Pay everbody 15% up to $300 if you want but when cutting on things like the photo tip remember you are not just tipping him. You are tipping the developers, the assitants, and everybody else who helps make your photos come out well. Technically you don't have to tip anybody at all but if you want them to go that extra mile for you instead of scraping by you'll have to suck it up.

at the catering hall only tip extra IF someone works very closely with you.in general i would recommend $20 - 100 tip per person, instead of a percentage.
