| traditionally the bride's maids pay for their own dresses....Your 'on principal' maid is off-base here...exactly what is the principal she's standing on???? The select a cheaper dress principle.....the you hafta pay if you want me in the party principle....the I'm the diva here and it's all about me principle...the I don't know Jack about wedding etiquette & tradition principle.....Under the circumstances I would inform her that traditionally you are under no obligation to pay for her outfit, that is her obligation...if she needs the financial help with it you will but it's not a bridal obligation....and if she's having issues with you not downsizing your wedding to suit her tastes then she should step down and make room for someone more supportive and without a 'diva' attitude...good luck.Look it up in any proper bridal etiquette book...the maids pay for their own outfits Period!LOL an earlier poster has got it right...tell your principled maid you've taken her advice & downsized the wedding...one less maid so she's the one who's out! hahahahahahaI honestly don't get it...if she can afford it what's the problem, if she can't you have generously offered to chip in.....so what principle is she talking about?......That you dared suggest Ms MoneyBags pay for her own as per AMERICAN tradition after all this is an AMERICAN wedding, right?Take her advice and 'downsize' her out...she's starting to make trouble so soon she'll continue right thru the wedding itself and that kind of headache you don't need. |

| wow! i thought it was generally accepted that bridesmaids paid for their own dresses! i've never heard of anyone having a bride pay for the bridesmaids dresses... certainly would be nice, but i don't think anyone expects that. now for other things, hair, jewelry, nails, shoes, etc. that is more shaky ground. but dresses- bridesmaid pays. just dont' ask anything crazy. i had up to $200 for the dress in my head when i was asked to be a bridesmaid. one cost me 150, the other 200 (i'm in 2 weddings). |

Where and How to Start?
There’s so much to do, it can be mind-numbing. Don’t worry. I planned and held my first wedding in two months and my second wedding in three months. If you have the luxury of a year or more, feel lucky!
Wedding Invitation
Ideally, invitations should be mailed out 6-8 weeks before the big day to give guests time to make arrangements to attend and RSVP back to you.
Wedding Attire
Where I come from, buying a tuxedo is virtually unheard of. Renting is probably the way to go to realize the ultimate savings on the groom’s attire.
Wedding Flowers
Cheap doesn't mean that your wedding flowers can't be beautiful. All flowers are lovely no matter what they cost.
Wedding Ceremony Decoration
Most wedding ceremonies are short and sweet, so why spend a majority...
Wedding Music
Music for your wedding ceremony could consist of live or recorded performances.
Wedding Photography
Pictures are priceless, and you want to be sure you have plenty of good pictures of your special day.
Wedding Favors
Some brides don’t like the idea of giving gifts to her guests, but we think it’s a nice gesture as a thank you...
Wedding Food
Wedding food can take a huge chunk out of your wedding budget.
Wedding Cake
Your wedding cake is the centerpiece of the reception. It is a scrumptious dessert as well as part of a tradition
Wedding Party
The question of whether or not to serve alcohol at your wedding is one that can cause dissension in the ranks of family.
