I was wondering if anyone knew of any software I could download (possibly freeware) that would allow me to make wedding invitations and the inserts. I do not wish to buy mine, I have a very good idea of what I want and my sister is drawing them for me, so anything I can upload a picture into and make my invitations with please. Thank you!Buying them would be lazy. I'm making my own, which will take a long time and a lot of hard work with only a few months to do them!I've tried word, and my computer doesn't seem to like it. Microsoft has a program, but my computer won't accept it Sad (we're having a large problem with our computers right now and downloading microsoft programs). I was hoping someone had used a program before to make their own and could let me know what they used.

Illustrator, but it will cost you. You could try Word, but its obviously not meant for making invitations so it might not look professional. Still, you could try.**I used Illustrator. I have the creative suite. There might be a free trial download, but I havent done that so I dont know anything about it. Check for a trial period on the Adobe website.

You definitely want to use some sort of layout software so you can manage all the text and images and get them aligned and in place. Word is the worst because it has so many automatic presets which make it really frustrating to do layouts.Adobe has 30 day trials of their software. I would not recommend Illustrator though unless you already know it. Illustrator has a pretty steep learning curve. Photoshop is good if you know it. If you're new to layout software, I would recommend looking for Adobe InDesign. It's intuitive and you should be able to pick it up quickly. You could also use Microsoft Publisher or Powerpoint. Both of these will give you more control than Word, but not as much as the Adobe products. If you don't have a lot of layout experience though, you may find them easier.A couple of general tips:1. Images for printing should be scanned in at 300dpi. (You don't need to scan at higher res- it will just eat up memory)2. When you save pictures you have a choice of many formats. The best for printing is .tif (TIFF). Most digital cameras and scanners will save stuff as .jpg (JPEG), so you want to convert it if you can. Just use the "save as" function and select TIFF. (The reason for this is that .jpg is a "lossy" format, meaning that every time you save it some of the information from the original image is lost. It has to do with compression formats, and I don't want to get too technical here, but print people avoid using JPEGS whenever possible.)3. If you're printing yourself, be prepared for printer calibration issues. On-screen colors are always going to look different than printed colors, so print your work often to make sure it's coming out how you expect it to. 4. You can also run into sizing issues if your printer decides to automatically resize your work because of the printer's own margin requirements. On whatever you're designing, leave generous margins so it prints at actual size.5. Consider saving your work both as an InDesign, Photoshop, whatever file *and* as an Adobe pdf. That way you can print the file from any computer, regardless of whether or not the computer has the software you used to create your invite.
