| Hi there, in a few days, I'll be buying my first DSLR and I am torn between 2 choices, a Canon 40D and Sony A300. Please make a decision for me and tell me why you chose that and why I should not go with the other choice. Also, recommend lenses for landscape, potrait and macro photography. Thanks |

| I would go with the Canon. They have been in the photo business much longer. Also Canon has a much better selection of quality lenses. As far as lenses go here are my recommendations.Landscape: Canon EF-S 10-22mm $800Portrait: Canon 50mm F1.8 $100 or F1.4 $400Macro: Canon 100mm F2.8 macro USM $600 Canon EF-s 60mm F2.8 macro USM $450 Canon 50mm F2.5 $300You may also want to look at the Canon 28-135 F3.5-5.6 IS USM $500. It is a great all around lens that compares very well to the L series pro lens. |

Hi there, You may have already chosen your camera but I'll leave a post anyway incase it helps someone else later I have been a professional photographer, mainly wedding & portrait for a number of years now, I started out with canon film cameras and loved them from the beginning so when i changed to digital i stuck with canon. I had the 30d to start with which i still think is a great camera but then I relegated it to backup camera when i bought the 40d. The difference is quite noticeable - the 40d is awesome, I would definitely recommend it! If funds are an issue as far as lenses go - sigma also offers some options. I have some canon lenses but for weddings find my Sigma 18-200 OS lens awesome, no need to change lenses the whole day!
Hope this helps
kind regards
Marie-Claire
