I'm doing a wedding this weekend, and it was going to be hard enough seeing I will only have 1 hour before sunset to do the wedding photos, but now i look at the forcast and it looks like rain as well Sad I was hoping for a sunny day without clouds. but now it looks like little available light, and cloudy and wet . . . does anyone have any advice?

It really depends on the setting and the camera used but soon as it will be raining you will most likely be inside in which case you will definitely need to use a flash (unless the building has awesome lighting), people don't stand still long enough to take long exposure photos so that really wont work but personally I prefer them to flash as I find flash makes photos look horrible.Make sure there is no mirrors or reflective surfaces behind your subjects as the flash will bounce back and ruin the photos.Make sure there is not direct lighting behind the subject as this can cause a lens flare. If you know how to do it and your camera is capable I'd suggest trying to get some depth of field photos as they look exquisite for weddings. It is quite hard to get right though. If you have a diffusion flash use it as the light wont be as harsh then.

Get a backup plan with an alternate location. Or, if you must be outdoors, perhaps there is a gazebo in the area where you will be shooting. Get out there ASAP and scout the area to see what you can find. It is better to plan ahead than drop ten and punt when people are paying for professional services.

Use off camera flash or strobes (strobes under cover, flashes are ok in the rain fired remotely, seal them in a plastic bag with just the lens uncovered. Have your assistant hold a large golf umbrella above you while you shoot on your mono or tripod or freestyling.Have a contengency plan to get the shots you might miss (from your shot list of images you have concieved for the couple/wedding) if the rain is impossible.I would do it manaully using the apeture to control my exposures from my flash - Distance to subject = GN devided by fstop, and have my assistant carry the umbrella over me, the flash means i can shoot freestyle as it should freeze most things and i would use a 125th shutter if you want or whatever is best for the ambient light. a

In addition to the technical stuff, I would buy solid bright colored umbrellas for the wedding party for some unique photos. Also, I would do groups at the altar if possible.

Actually, a sunny day without clouds is what you shouldn't want. Of course, monsoon is not great either. If it is overcast the lighting will be good for portrait type work. If the sky is dull and grey, try to keep it out of your images as much as possible. Bring a stepladder so you can get a higher POV. If it is really dark, don't be afraid to go with a higher ISO. The sky may be alive with color, though. If so, use fill flash, maybe with gels, and work that to your best advantage! Take some umbrellas., I have seen many wonderful wedding shoots using umbrellas, even in the rain. I shot a bride once in the pouring rain with no umbrella, kinda like a trash the dress shoot. And there is always the chance of having a rainbow. If it is raining, be sure to have a helper with an umbrellla over you to keep your camera dry. In fact, I would use a plastic bag over the camera AND an umbrella. Not attractive, but it lets your camera live for another day.

i want to know why you were hoping for a sunny day without clouds?i think that you need to learn a little more about taking photos before taking on someones BIG daya sunny day with no clouds will just make things difficult for you. what you want is clouds and enough of them so that the sun stays diffused
