I need to buy a digital camera to be used to shoot my wedding initially, and then close-up photography for my online sales after that. I have a maximum budget of $500 for the camera. I tried shopping for one the other day but all the terms were overwhelming. Zoom this, and megapixel that! Can anyone give me the lowdown on what all these terms mean and when/why I might need them?

Okay ... first we will give you the information on pixels ...Pixel count is one of four factors that can help you determine the quality and resolution you can expect from a digital camera in order of importance.* Quality of the lens* The quality and sophistication of the analog to digital converter within the camera.* Sensor sizeand last and certainly least:* Pixel counthttp://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/mpmyth.htmNext we can talk about optical zoom lenses (P&S cameras all have these fixed lenses, so buying additional lenses is out). The higher the number 3x or 5x or 10x of the optical zoom, the more flexability you will have when using it)You can forget digital zoom claims ... they are nothing but smoke and mirrors.* Look for one that uses SD memory cards.* Find one that uses optical IS, not digital* Look for a camera that has a macro mode available (look for something on the shooting mode dial that looks like a flower in a pot.* Find a camera the uses Li-ion batteries. The hold their charge longer and will last for over five years. Here is a link to the glossaryhttp://www.dpreview.com/learn/?/Glossary/

$400.00 and you can have a Canon S5 IS Power Shot. I bought one last fall and fell immediately in love with it's ease of use, wide variety of features, POWERFUL zoom and outstanding picture quality. I am with you when it comes to the overload of technical terms. Megapixels - as long as you have 6 you will be in good shape for most subjects. If you are planning on having oversized enlargements done go at least to 8. 8 is what the Canon has. Read up on them as I did and you will find one that suits you. Try consumer reports and talk to your friends who have them. Good luck and congratulations on your upcoming marriage.

the answers from experts can even overwhelm you. for starters, let us say, you want to look at something and see it bigger and clearer without going near it. if you need that, you buy a zoom lens. the higher the number, the farther it can reach. it is like a telescope you can adjust. weddings using this make stunning pictures. you have to be creative in using it.megapixel commonly is about how clear or large the picture is. when you see a little picture or a picture that is not clear and has square-like mosaic in it, it has a lower pixel number. 8 megapixels means 8 million drops any color in your picture. though it still very large at our standards, 4 megapixels can make your products look great.remember, these are just basic infos.
