Ok, so we are flying cross country this summer. Home to see our families and to attend my brother's wedding. The flights are LONG, and we have to transfer planes here and there. (Just to give you an idea on how long the flights are we are traveling from California to Maine/Massachusetts) There are times in between switching flights also, not too long though. We are going from California to Houston to New England and back again. My children are ages 14 yrs, 6 yrs, and when we fly my youngest will be 18 months. We haven't flown since 2002. I was wondering if you could give me any tips or if you might know of a check list or something on a web site that I can make sure I have everything covered. Also maybe let me know what I can and can not bring for them, or somewhere I can see a list of things that are either ok or things that are not.Thanks SO much!  |

| get the 14 year old and 5 year old a nintendo DS or somthing that they can play games on. other wise look into getting a portable dvd player or two for them to watch movies. you need stuff like that to keep them busy. bring lots of snack (you can bring food just not liquids through the check point. you can bring empty water bottles though so make sure you have one for every one and fill it up with water after the check point. pack them each a backpack with activities in it and small toys (things they have never seen or played with because so that they are more interesting and interesting for longer). | http://www.tsa.gov (for regulations on what you CAN and CAN'T bring)I think your 14 and 6 year old will probably do just fine, but 18 months is a tricky age, as most toddlers are very active and don't like sitting still for a very long time. If you haven't already, I would recommend buying a seat for your 18 month old...I have purchased seats for my toddler since he was 8 months old..he has always been very active and there was no way I could hold him on my lap and keep my sanity. Also, if you did purchase a seat and are bringing your car seat, I would highly recommend the GO GO Kidz travel mate...it attaches to your car seat turning it into a stroller and makes everything just so much easier on you. Also, you can leave it attached to the seat at all times, making getting on and off the plane so much easier. I would also suggest bringing along a portable dvd player...my son has been obsessed with curious george and he is now 18 months and will sit down quietly on a plane or car as long as he can watch his beloved monkey. Pack a couple of little airplane friendly (nothing to disruptive) toys, that your 18 month old hasn't had a chance to see yet...bring them out when nothing seems to be able to calm your child..it should keep him/her occupied for a while. I also recommend bringing lots of binkies, teething rings/sticks, or anything the toddler can suck on to relieve pressure in the ears (gum for your older kids).Pack extra clothing for your toddler and for yourself and many extra diapers. If you have a long layover, check out the airport online..many airports have indoor playgrounds..let your kids unwind ..let your toddler run and play...it may exhaust him/her and make him/her sleep on the next flight.Also, I love the little noses non medicated saline spray ...put some in your toddlers nose before flying..it moisturizes his nasal passages (cabin air is very dry).Good luch and have a safe trip |
