Okay, so my husband and I have been married since January, but we want to do it in August with our family there. What are the traditions and things to follow or discard from a real wedding? Wedding party? Cake? Dad walking me down the aisle? We never had a real "ceremony", so this is our first.... Please help... I was doing great with planning a wedding, then it turned to this, and it's beyond me. Do we still have the regular wedding cake? Food? DJ? Wedding dress? I'm at a loss!

Hello there! Since you are already married you can follow as many traditions as you wish, or you can keep it as simple as you want. If you want to do a ceremony again, you dont even need to hire an officiant, because its not legally binding, you can have one of your good friends recite the ceremony for you! You dont have to follow any rules at all. Do whatever you think is best! And that you like! Its all about having a celebration of your love! If you need anything else, dont hesitate to contact me!!

I'm also renewing my wedding vows and like you I never had the wedding we want. We only been married for 2 yrs. We going with the full works. I don't see a problem with it. Only thing I don't recommend is getting a bridal registery.

I searched a long time for the answer to your question because it is the same question i had a year ago. Every site I went to said "it is not proper to do anything wedding like at a renewal, you already had your wedding deal with it" I didn't like that answer. My husband and I did not have a real wedding, none of our family was there and it was definitely not my dream wedding. I am having a full wedding May 18th complete with first dance, cake and everything. The only thing different we are doing is the actual ceremony, which I am having difficulty wording. I say do what you want. If you really want a wedding with the dress and all do it. Its your day. I personally wanted to be able to show my daughter beautiful wedding pictures not tacky vegas ones. I hope this helps. Remember sometimes etiquette gets in the way of what one truly wants.

Go all out. Have a renewal of vows, and have HUGE BANG OUT PARTY afterwards. Buy the prettiest dress that you can find. Have your dad walk you down the aisle. Wink good luck. Smile

Most people will tell you this is not a "re-do" and to skip some of the more obvious things, like a big wedding party, a bridal shower, big veil, and gift registry, as you are already married. (lots of people will bring gifts anyway) Beyond that it's pretty much up to you, and you can have what you wish for your renewal. Wear a wedding dress if you like, but perhaps not a big white pouffy one - something more informal, classy and elegant might be appropriate for your setting. Dad can walk you down the aisle (escort), but shouldn't "give you away"- as you are already married now. Vows will be slightly different to reflect that you are renewing & not getting married - your officiant will know about that. And everyone loves cake - that's fine - so is food & dancing & a D.J. and pics! Enjoy your reception and have a wonderful time!

There is a BIG difference between a second wedding ceremony and a renewal of vows so before you order the invitations you need to know where you stand, and what the difference is.If you are planning on wearing a white gown and a tuxedo you are having A SECOND WEDDING CEREMONY. If you are planning on having bridesmaids, a flower girl, your Father walk you down the aisle, a disc jockey, a three-tiered wedding cake, a photographer, and carrying a big bouquet of flowers than you are having A SECOND WEDDING CEREMONY AND A RECEPTION. Let's face reality, you are having "the party that you never had." Anything that resembles a wedding IS A WEDDING.If you are just planning on stating your vows again in front of a few friends and family members than you are having A RENEWAL OF VOWS. If you are wearing a party dress and a dark suit than you are having a RENEWAL OF VOWS. If you are not having bridesmaids or a Maid of Honor nor a Best Man than you are RENEWING YOUR VOWS. Yes, you can have a three course dinner, and a cake but the decorations should be simple and understated.Answered by: A Certified wedding specialist / A Professional bridal consultant / A Wedding ceremony officiant
