We are having our ceremony at our church and the reception at a local venue (one of the few I could find). It is the cheapest I can find to rent but you must use their caterer. The fingerfood/buffet start at $30+. My dress and veil are very reasonable but with food added and the cost of the reception venue, we are already at $10,000. Perhaps I need to find a new local venue for the reception but of the ones I have found, they cost more than the one I am looking at. Where can I find another local venue or what are your suggestions??We are having the wedding in AL. I am willing to pay for something nice but the venue, food, and dress are $10,000..I can see where this could get out of control. There are still so many things to add to it. However, I love to be crafty and would enjoy making the centerpieces and anything else I could. |

Can you give me an idea of where you live? We found several in our area that wasn't listed at all, we ended up going with a landowner's association. My parents live in a place called Glenwood Acres, and they have a clubhouse that they do all of their business in. It's only $50 to rent it out for the day! There are all kinds of things that are cheap, you just have to look really hard! If you can give me an idea of where you live, I'd like to help you a bit better!Good luck!

What bout doing the reception outside, and bringing in your own caterer? Or not having a meal, but a "heavy Hors d'oeuvres" reception? Or you can cut your guest list - but I wouldn't do that if I didn't have to.Good luck, and Congratulations!

Does your church have a hall? That is what we are renting out. We are able to keep our wedding under $5,000 with 120 people.

your question is a bit vague, considering we have no idea where you live, so I can't offer any specific venues. Just so you know, the average wedding is usually about $25,000 - $30,000. If you are willing to give up a classy event and go for simply affordable, you can call your local moose lodge, which is really lacking frills and usually pretty unsightly, but it will fit your budget and you can bring your own food.Another good idea would be Vegas. Anyone who wants to see the wedding can fly there and see it. Same with any other destination. Just go away somewhere beautiful and elope. You can have a nice dinner reception somewhere when you get home with close friends and family. Other than that, the old saying, "You get what you pay for" applies to throwing a great wedding.

My wedding is right around 10,000 as well. With the bar, food, seat covers, and center pieces, we are paying about 50-55 a person. This is normal. If that is more than you can handle, then try just a regular lodge somewhere and get a caterer. However, once you pay for that caterer, alchol, centerpieces, etc you are back to where you began I would assume

What about the Church's fellowship hall? OK so probably no alcohol but it would be cheaper. How about 'renting' a really good restaurant for the evening instead of a "hall"?

Not sure where you live but there are halls everywhere that you can rent. We got one from the local F.O.P. and it was only $300 to rent for 4 hours. We got to do the decorating ourselves and made all our own food (we recruited teenagers to serve drinks and clean up). We made a couple big lasagna's and had salad and garlic bread, and some other side things (in-laws were italian). It was great! We had around 250 people and everyone had a great time and loved the homemade food!

Try and find a local restaurant. They usually can do good deals if you do a buffet or set menu. Otherwise the hors douvres reception is still classy but a lot less expensive. Also, just to mention, the dress, ceremony and reception venues (incl. food) are your main costs. The rest is not going to have to cost a huge amount. I would suggest you could do the rest nicely for $5000 if you can afford that. If not why not try cutting your guest list down if you can?Just look around a little. Spend a day with your fiance driving around the area and see what you like. Walk into places and see what they charge and what their food tastes like (if they are self catered). Look at areas that you may be able to set up a marquee instead. Good luck!We had our reception at a restuarant (pretty much got the whole place to ourselves) with 80 guests at $37.50pp. That was just the food - but half the decorating is already done (since they need the place to look nice for normal nights) and that pays for the waiters as well. We payed around $20pp for open bar (only wine and beer though - and this is optional) and our whole wedding cost $14,000.
