Just make sure she undertands that you have never done this before and that you may not give her the pictures she is hoping for. If she still wants you, then go for it! My Son is a wedding photographer and people are getting away from the standard posed shots and want more natural pictures. I think you'll do a fine job and sounds like it will be a good thing for both parties involved as it will give you experience and her a great deal! You can do this!!!

In my advice,Id say go for it! Its experience, and if it goes well, could launch you into a photography career! If people are impressed with your pictures now, you should be okay. If you take alot of shots, if some go wrong, at least you'll have alot to use. because not all of them could be bad!

i just did my first wedding...it was for a family member and so there was a lot less pressure...plus she was snapping away on her camera too...between the two of us we made out with some really great shots...what saved me was that i was able to bring along my laptop and constantly dump pictures throughout the day. my husband has an external drive so we then copied all the pictures there and now i'm going through and photoshopping.. when i'm all done i'm handing everything over on disk for my cousin to have a proofbook made. they are going to upload all the pictures to a website that will allow guest to order any pictures if they want to. this way i am keeping my hands out of the print process of iti brought my tripod but didn't end up using it much...i was too much on the move the whole time. have the bride make a list of what pictures she wants done for post wedding with bridal party and family so you can make sure you get everything she wants (bride and groom with brides grandparents, bride and groom with groom's, ect...)good luck and have fun with it...it wasn't as bad as i feared. i would say bring the canon and all the lenses (the telephoto may prove to be vital during the ceremony)i would bring along filters especially if you are going to do any shots of just bride before hand...if its an outdoor wedding check out the weather for that day (we almost got rained on) and if there is parts of it indoors see if you can find out what the lighting conditions will be and have a good flash handy.you'll do great.

You should probably find some standard contracts also to have her sign. I know it will make you feel like a bully, but you don't want the bride or her mother, or his mother, to come after you after the wedding and sue you. This happens A LOT. My friend used to be a wedding photographer and said it was the most stressful job he ever had. Make sure you check with the bride to find out what exact picture she wants, so you can make sure that you get those at a minimum. Then just have fun. Take a LOT of pictures and some of them should turn out. Good luck!

Can't help you much with the actual equipment, but I don't see anything that stands out as missing, except maybe the flash. I would assume that your camera came with it, but I've noticed that photographers use many different ones. Some advice that I do want to give you is this.....you absolutely need a checklist of the shots that the bride specifically wants. Google "Wedding photo checklist" and you should come up with many examples. Don't allow them to let you shoot "off the cuff" so to speak. My professional, well-known photographer whom I had met with several times and viewed his work totally screwed up my wedding pics. I asked him if there was a checklist that he used, he said no, he just liked his customers to tell him or let him know what they wanted. I let him know, and he didn't do it. As a result, many memories have been lost. Save the bride some heartache and provide her with one. It'll make it easy for everyone concerned. Also, take as many pics before the wedding as possible. You don't want to cut into that reception time.

One of my best friends is getting married next summer and asked me to photograph her wedding. I am by no means a professional photographer. I don’t even have an SLR camera lol. But I was a bridesmaid in my other friends wedding last September and I took about 8-900 pictures that day and she LOVED them! She ended up having more of my photos printed than she did the hired photographer. I was nervous at first so I suggested we do an engagement session first so we could all get a feel for each other and they could see my work. Well we did it this past weekend and it went really well and they loved the pictures. Hopefully by the time their wedding gets here I will have better equipment and more experience but I am excited to do it. Seems like your way more experienced than me so I would say GO FOR IT! Deff get a list of shots the bride and groom want and definitely get a contract signed. I told my friend I was going to have her sign a contract and she was totally okay with it!GOOD LUCK!!! |

I have read many professional photography sites, and the one thing they consistently say is that the pop-up flash on most digital SLR cameras is not versatile enough and will eat up your batteriesTry to borrow (or buy if you want to make a part-time career of this thing) a separate flash (there should be an attachment on the camera.http://members.shaw.ca/dorisfed/wedding_photographer/wedding_photo_tips.htmhttp://www.picturecorrect.com/photographytips/wedding_photography_tips.htmGo to the rehearsal, to check out the sceneTalk to the bride and groom to compile a list of all the shots they want. Set your camera to take "bursts" of pictures for "action shots" its amazing how peoples expressions can change An example here: the only picture captured of our "first kiss" depicts my mouth wide open, my husband leaning away in fear..We are easy going people, and I actually think its hilarious, but others might not share this sentiment.I think alot of people will post lists with played out cliches like "bride looking out a window" or "groomsmen in sunglasses" or "bridesmaids on a bed"Try to capture the moment and always be around.bring extra batteries, memory, battery charger. One thing that really helped me out with the composition is to imagine on you screen when taking a picture that there are two lines in the horizontal and vertical directions (splitting your screen up into 9 rectangles, and 4 nodes) For interesting pictures, try to place the subject into one of those nodes. From a person who asked other people to photograph her own wedding, in my position, I had realistic expectations. All I really wanted was one nice picture to remember the day by. (Albums and Albums of wedding photographs weren't my thing) Good luck.

You might want to get an external flash and a diffuser for it. If you do get this flash learn about bounce flash. It can make the pictures have a more natural light to them.
