| Get the names and addresses of the 18 extra people.Both you and your fiance have to do this - and agree to it.Write them a long and kind letter about how, in their zeal and excitement, Steve's parents apparently couldn't contain their joy and somehow "invited" them to the wedding despite the fact that the guest list was finalized weeks before. Explain that your budget simply cannot accommodate any extra, or last minute guests. Beg - yes beg - for forgiveness; but tell them that they, along with so many,many people you wished so much to attend this very special day, simply couldn't be invited. Again, beg them for their forgiveness and thank them profusely for their understanding.Both of you sign these letters.Show the letter to Steve's parents and tell them that this will be sent out to their guests unless they cough up the money to pay for their bad manners - or else they recind the invitation. Period.Return the gifts that the Shower guests gave you - INTACT and UNOPENED or UNSPENT.Do this right away.That will do several things. It will officially uninvite the "accidental guests." It will let the "guests" know that Steve's parents acted out of line. It will perhaps shame Steve's parents into coughing up the cash to cover their guests. It will also let Steve's parents know that you are sticking to your plans - regardless of their bad manners. You're right - there is no "easy" way to get out of this. But this will get you out of this mess. I would rethink this marriage. With inlaws like that your life will be living hell. |

| I would inform your future mother-in-law that extra guests cannot be accomodated, and she will have to un-invite them HERSELF.You need to be assertive here...otherwise she will try to run your marriage if she gets away with THIS. |
