I have actual never heard of that but I can't see it being that popular maybe because I can't understand why anyone would want to do that. Wedding dresses are very expenisive and are a big deal to women even after their wedding I can't imagine why they would trash their dress.

it more common in the south...they dont really trash the dress.. thats just what it is called.. look at the website Trashthedress.comi am doing it in july my wedding is in may. we are doing the bride who cant let go.. my photogrpaher whats to build her portfoilo on something with a little edge and she asked me.. in exchange i get all prints for free as long as she can use them in her studio..we are by no means trashing my dress...and after that i am donating my dress to dresses for breast cancer.i am doing it because i just really want some unique pictures.. and hey i am only wearing my dress once might as well get some use out of itEdit: you may know that you really dont trash the dress but people answering it that dont know what it is think that you trash the dress.. some good dry cleaning would take any of the dirt out :)there is a cute slide show on the last blog on trashthedress.com front page just click the link that says trash the benz slide show.. it really shows what trash the dress really is

I have never heard about that ever since. For me, why should you trash something when it is one of the important keepsake in one of the major celebration of you life, right? I don't see any point of doing it.

i've been married for a yr and half, and even though my dress was dirt cheap, I'll be damned to trask it-- to me, that's like trashing my wedding vows, makes a joke out of the whole dayI have seen a few cases when it's been done, but to me it's complete stupidity to pay all that money and destroy it-- i'd like to take mine in the future and if my girl doesn't want to wear it, maybe to talk it apart and use to assemble a memory quilt

The concept was introduced by Los Angeles wedding photographer Jessica Claire about 2 yrs ago under the name "day after pics" in order to get photos that weren't possible the day of but in a relaxed setting. Nothing involved whatsoever with destroying a dress or getting it any dirtier than it already is at the end of the wedding night. She and her associates were pretty much the only ones taking them. Then in the last few months, the wedding industry caught on and gave them a trashy (pun intended) name and made people believe they were incredibly popular across the country even though only one small group of photographers were known for them. So no they aren't near as popular as the wedding industry would like you to think. Many photographers don't have a clue what they are.

This makes no sense like that other dumb "tradition" of smashing cake in the bride's face.

I think that is one of the more stupid things (besides smashing cake into each others face) that wedding couples have come up with. Shows total disrespect for marriage (my opinion)

trashing the dress is an awesome idea. I know lots of people who think its awesome but I wouldn't just be a trash the dress photographer you should do lots of things like weddings. I know people who trash their dresses usually use the photographers that did their weddings. Why are all these people putting their dresses away in box for years and years when they could have gorgeous relaxed pictures. I have seen people ride horses, play in fountains, do graffiti all in their dresses and it really looks wonderful!

I think the fact that most people seem to have never heard of this tells you how popular it is. If you want to be a photographer then you should do it, but you might want to offer more services than just "trash the dress" photography.

I am doing it. I think it shows a commitment to your husband as a statement of "i will never need this dress again"... and like someone said before, a good dry cleaner can get any stains out. and who needs a puffy white dress to hang in their closet the rest of their lives. Its not like anyone is ever going to wear it again and think of the AWESOME pictures you would end up with....but to answer you question.... Its not that popular and many brides dont want to get their precious dress dirty... i guess some things are more important than the marriage! ~~~~~NOT TO ME~~~~~ I wouldnt base your whole career on Trash the Dress. Its simply a movement in photography and well... its not like you can make your whole living on this one element. You are going to have to do some portraits and childrens pics.... You have to broaden your horizons to create a business!

Once I started researching photographers for my upcoming wedding I came across this trash the dress idea. I've seen it done where people jump in pools and things like that. I thought the pictures were very cool and you would just need the right type of city to do it in. As long as you are in a larger city where you have a variety of people I think you can definitely be successful. (I am not wanting to do it but it could be fun)

It must not be popular around here (wa) I have never heard of it. And I have never seen it on any websites that I go too, and I go too a lot of sites.**EDIT**ok I had to go look around and see what trashing the dress was. I think its pretty cool actually, the pictures I seen weren't anything like I first thought, they are really beautiful pictures, and nothing to bad was done to the dress, sure some got soaking wet or dirty but there are dry cleaners. After seeing the pictures this is something I might consider doing at some point.I am also going to use my dress to make my daughters coming home dress out of it when the adoption is final. something special for me and her; that will cherished for years to come.
