We're moving and can't make up our minds. My wife and I are wedding photographers and are planning to set up our business in one of these cities. We'd like to live in a nice quiet, safe town/city with good public transport, cheap housing and things to do/see. Interested in hiking, photography, nature, art and history. Not interested in night clubs. We've heard Edinburgh is colder and wetter in the winter and quite windy as well.

Edinburgh is one of the great cities of the world.Rainfall is about the same as London, but temperatures are about 3c lower on average. It can be windy in places because it is built on 7 hills.

I would say Edinburgh, as it is beautiful, but I've never been to the other two.

I love Edinburgh. It has something for everyone. The suburbs are very quiet and it is located close enough to some great outdoor areas. You will have access to a modern city as well as some great countryside. Good luck!

Edinburgh has the Edinburgh Festival each summer, which is amazing! You say you are interested in art, well the Edinburgh Festival is all the art you can handle! The Edinburgh Tattoo is brilliant too!Edinburgh is also one of the most historic cities in the world and is certainly the most picturesque.Scotland is quite a bit colder than the rest of the UK, but it is so much more beautiful. As a Scott, I'm a little biased, but I'd vote for Edinburgh

I lived in Edinburgh for 20 plus years and loved it. I don't think you can really separate that much of the UK based on weather, it sucks everywhere and the difference between the places over the year would be negligible. Edinburgh is a great place though, beautiful, close to nature, not too big, by the sea, the mountains of the highlands are within easy reach and so on. It has a rich cultural and historical back ground and I do miss it a lot. However you state public transport and that bites the big one in Edinburgh. There are buses everywhere true but they are expensive, crowded and there is no alternative. That however is the only downside based on the criteria that you mentioned and I would reccomend Edinburgh wholeheartedly.Mind you I moved to Prague when I got married and I would reccomend that a whole lot more than any of them!!

Cardiff. Its Brilliant, By the sea, not far from the Welsh hills (Beacons) and has a good public transport system. Also the housing isnt too expensive but its getting to be.And we have the best stadium, castle and chip shop.Edingburgh is cold and wet in the winter and leeds is quite rough (allegedly)

Having not lived in Edinburgh or Leeds I would have to say Cardiff, there are some lovely suburbs like Penarth, Dinas Powys and Sully, house prices are a little high but it's so beautiful and you are right by the sea. Cardiff has everything you could possibly want, but just a short drive takes you to some really pretty towns and villages. Beautiful scenery for wedding pictures too. There are some great places to hike, you are only a short drive from the Brecon Beacons and there is so much to do there I wouldn't be able to list the all!

I live in Cardiff, so I vote for that option. Cardiff is like London on a small scale, with a huge stadium nearby, gorgeous old buildings, and a concentrated shopping area that includes beautiful eccentric arcades with poky knick-knack shops. The Welsh people are very friendly andw elcoming. We have a big history museum and an art museum next to one another. As for nature, Bute Park provides lovely walks and views, and so does Roath park, which is in a queiter area.Lastly, one of my friends is a wedding photographer here in Cardiff and says he is always bombarded with bookings.I hope you enjoy wherever you end up living.

Being from Newport just down the road, I would say Cardiff is the best, I'm even considering moving there. Look at the Roath area, its green and quiet. Cathays is a cheap area, but is very 'studenty' as the university is situated in this area. Or, check out the cardiff bay area, this has good transport links with the city and is of a 'higher class' to to speak. Charlotte Church has an apartment there. To do and see? Hmmm, you have your pick of bars/pubs/nice restaurants at affordable prices, we have the millennium stadium, the new theatre, the CIA (and many other venues where bands and acts come to), and many parks and a nice big castle. We also have large events such as Mardi Gras, plus the weather is much better than up north. I would call it a scaled down, friendlier, London, but with welsh people! Secondly, I would pick edinburgh for it's history, but many of my mates have said leeds is good for university because of its nightlife aspect, and not much else!

Leeds is good because there is something there for all tastes. There are loads of museums and galleries and you can be in the countryside in a few minutes, even from the city centre. Leeds is well served by national transport networks and the local transport is pretty good. Obviously, as with all large cities, there are areas which are less safe than others but there are certainly plenty of areas which are very nice to live in. The weather here varies. At the moments the sun is trying to come out and its quite warm. This morning we had torrential rain and over the last couple of days its been very cold for the time of year!

Edinburgh probably most expensive and most difficult to get housing in due to number of people wanting to live thereLeeds good - cheaper bits and posher bits. Good town centre, good transport, Cardiff similar really. There are probably more people likely to get married in the areas of Cardiff and Leeds so that might be better business-wiseI guess it boils down to your preferences and whether you want to live in Scotland Wales or England.Check out websites like rightmove.com to see what you can get for your money and then i guess just visit the different places and see which one you like best.

All three cities are great bases if your into walking as each has large rural areas within easy drive of the city. Edinburgh is probably the prettier of the three and Leeds is the cheapest with regard to day to day cost of living. Leeds is probably more sheltered weather wise as the Penine hills to the west of the city take the majority of the harsh winter.House prices in all three however cannot be described as cheap.

Hiya, I've lived in all 3 cities, and my favorite is definitely Leeds. The people are so friendly, I happened to get lost and plenty of people were telling me where to go and how to get there, they also say hi as you walk by, some even stop for a chat - generally in Edinburgh and Cardiff, people keep them selves to themselves - Friendliness is the one of the keys to a successful business. As for house prices, Leeds wins again. The transport in all 3 is pretty good, I find Leeds transport easier, more stops, politer drivers and less ' rif raf ' on them. In Leeds there is LOTS to see, galleries, museums, Temple Newsam house is a must see, there is also old abbeys. Great shopping if you're into that. There is nightclubs but you're not interested in them! Yep you nailed it that Edinburgh is colder! There won't be any weddings for you to take photos of there, unless people want winter weddings. Thinking of your business, I'd say Leeds is the best place out of the 3 to place it. Good Luck with the move and the business!

According to all surveys, Edinburgh is best. House prices are high, check with www.scotsman.com.It is the prettyist of the three by far. Have a look at edinphoto.org.uk. (a great website for a photographer!)Crime is low for its size and you would have the fun of photographing lots of blokes in kilts! There is a lot to see and do. Edinburgh being a capital city and a serious tourist and culture vulture destination. It is a wee bit cold and dark in winter but rainfall is probably less than the other two places which you mention.I have been to all three places and would not consider either Leeds or Cardiff, both being worse places than Glasgow to live in. The locals do not realise it though! Ugly souless dumps both of them.
