|

My husband and I own a photography business in Pennsylvania. My cousin, who lives in Florida has asked us to do her wedding. She wants our $1,000 package. What would you charge? We are figuring to go down there for about 4 days (driving), we are looking at about $750 for the short trip (since we wouldn't be doing any activities or anything, just hanging out with family.) Would you just charge that and do the photos as a gift, or would you figure in something on top of the travel cost too?No, we wouldn't have been attending if we weren't asked to photograph...due to expenses of travel and time off for our Mon-Fri jobs

Now thats a tough one. I would tell her that you need $750 to cover expenses, but do the rest for free. Or you can explain the situation and tell her you cannot give her a break on money. I guess it depends on how close you are to her.

Well it depends if you were planning on going before she asked you to do the photography. If you were planning to still go no matter what i would charge her maybe half of your $1000 package. If you were not planning on going before i would charge her the travel expense. Either way you are cutting her a deal. Good Luck!!!

Would you go to her wedding if you weren't a photographer? If you would, then don't even consider the travel costs, because you would have paid them anyway. In this case, I would only charge them for actual material costs, unless you can afford to donate the time and the materials. If the only reason you are going is to photograph the wedding, then you should consider travel costs. I would give her the package for $750 and be done with it.

Were you planning to attend the wedding in the first place? If so I would absorb the the cost. and charge full service charge $1000.00. As a "whole picture" I would think this could become a bag mixture of feelings on both sides. I myself would have refused their request gracefully. And go the wedding as a guest if that was the plan in the first place.good luck.

If you were going to go to the wedding in the first place then make it your wedding gift to her. and don't charge for travelIf she is HIRING you to photograph the wedding, then you would add your travel expenses to the cost of the package she wants and then maybe discount her the cost of the package as your gift to her but still charge for the travel expenses.

Ok I have a question for you...Are you close with this cousin? If you were just going to be a guest at her wedding opposed to her photographer would you still pay the expenses it would cost to go to her wedding or are you only going because she wants you take pictures? If it were my cousin and I was going to the wedding reguardless I would not charge anything except the cost of developing the pictures. If you would not have gone to the wedding just as a guest I guess traveling expenses would be the answer. You may want to check flights. With gas prices the way the are it may be cheaper to fly. My brother just flew from Orlando to Maine for $150 roundtrip.

If you can afford it I think it would be a lovely gift! If not I'm sure she with understand that this is your lively hood.Would you be attending the wedding if you were not the photographers? If you would than I don't know if I'd charge for travel. If not I think that's fair.Maybe just charge your costs. (printing, batteries, cds, whatever you would would have to purchase to complete the project)

If I were in your shoes I would do them at cost. Meaning that I would charge for travel expenses and any costs to develop pics, or albums or whatnot. I wouldn't charge for my time to shoot the wedding or anything like that. Tell her that you are only charging what it is actually costing you to do this, and that is their gift. Then you won't have to worry about getting a gift as well. I'm sure she would appreciate that much more than another toaster. Photographers are really expensive.
