It's the most popular bridesmaid gift out there (anytime anyone asks what to get for the attendants, the number one answer is always jewelry). But why is it so popular? Do attendants, past and present, really enjoy it as much as everyone says or is it something that is given since the bride has a certain look she's going for that everyone has to match or the bride doesn't want to look for something more personal to each attendant?

out of the 3 weddings I've been in, I only got 1 necklace I would wear it again but it is very fancy. one of the necklaces actually tarnished and I threw it out! I doubt it was real silver.

I believe that for the most part it is given because the bride wants a certain look, I will be giving it as a bride, but as a 2 time maid, I have used the jewlery given many times after the wedding, 1 was a simulated amethyest set, one pearl, I found they meshed well with my tastes, but I know for one or two maids for the same weddings, who I know well and know their tastes they would never wear it again.

Every wedding I've been in (5 so far) I have gotten the jewelry that the bride wants us to wear for the wedding. The less dressy pieces, I have worn again. But like the previous poster, most of it was "costume" jewelry and tarnished over time.Just an FYI, sometimes it's not because a bride doesn't haven't time to get something more personal for each attendant, but that there are pricing issues. Or personal issues of wanted the wedding party to match. Every bride is different.

Depends on the jewelry my MOH's dress is chocolate brown so I got her this for the wedding... and I believe that she will wear it afterwards.http://www.redenvelope.com/re/gifts/product_display/product_information.jsp?nc=69956&refPg=%2fproduct_display%2fgift_results.jsp&bct2=shops&bcp2=1&bcm2=1%24%24-8193&bct4=jewelry&bcp4=3&bcm4=1%24%24-12421&bct5=bracelets&bcp5=4&bcm5=29$$%2Fshops%2Fjewelry%2Fbracelets@@30$$-12689@@35$$12689&catOid=-12689&oid=21032362&nc2=1

I was MOH in a wedding and each of us received a pretty pearl bracelet with a diamond clasp. I don't think this was to attain a "look" because, frankly, a bracelet isn't that noticeable. I know that the bride got them at BJs (I picked them up for her) and still were a very generous gift - and BEAUTIFUL! I wear mine frequently, and actually got a pearl necklace later to match cause I liked it so much!!!Looked sorta like this but I think the pearls are bigger. http://www.ross-simons.com/rs/show_product.jsp?Prod_ID=028284&freeText=028284&cm_mmc=Feeds-_-YahooPI-_-null-_-nullPS - in her case, the bride didn't do this in lieu of something more personal, rather, she wanted to give jewelery because it IS personal. Something worn against the skin, whether it is jewelery, lingere, or a scent is always personal. As an aside, I believe that if the jewelery given is truly for "a look" and is cheap and tarnishes over time as previous posters have mentioned, it shouldn't be considered a bridesmaid gift. It should be considered part of the dress, and if an additional gift is more than the bride can handle, she should ask her 'maids to pay for the cheap jewels themselves. In a way that would be like "gifting" the dress itself. It's very nice if the bride pays for the dresses, but they are not gifts.

Depending on the dress the maids choose I will probably get them jewelry but this is so that (if they don't have anything fancy) they don't have to spend anymore money. I'm trying to keep the cost down for them as much as possible.

Yeah, I've worn jewelry I received by being a bridesmaid after the wedding. As long as it's not too fancy or formal that it won't go with anything (which none of them were). One set I particularly liked was a set, earrings, necklace, and bracelet, of gold and pearls that I wear to work sometimes.I don't know if I will buy my bridesmaids jewelry for their gift. I'll probably just let them wear their own if they want to. I want to get them something more personal, but jewelry is always a good gift (as long as it's not tacky or cheap).

I have worn one out of 5 sets and that's mainly because I made the jewelry for everyone and intentionally made it wearable. I know I'm going to get a lot of flack for this, but I think giving someone jewelry that you expect them to wear in your wedding because you want a certain look and giving it under the charade of a gift is not right. If you want to thank your bridal party with a small gift, personalize it. No where is it written that you have to give everyone the same exact gift. Yes, it will take more thought, but trust me, will be appreciated a lot more.
