Which would you prefer? I know they're pretty much the same thing, but I don't know. Just can't decide now. If we get cupcakes, how many should we order? 1-2 per person? 15 guests, plus us two. How close to the wedding should we order them? Or does it matter for cakes like those? I really am clueless.We're not doing the sheet cake in the back thing. We were just going to get a sheet cake. Small wedding, nothing fancy. | I recently went to a wedding where the wedding cake had ONE cake tier and all the rest were made up of cupcakes. It was soooo easy and delicious. I would say two for each guest.Williams-Sonoma has a cupcake stand. |

| Call your local bakery . . . and ask how early you need to place the order. Our local bakery here usually only needs one or two days notice, but call your bakery and ask.For 15 guests, I would prefer the sheet cake. | The cupcake stand for a wedding cake is a very unique idea I think. I never would have thought about it. Of course they have to be appropriately decorated, sorta like individual wedding cakes to be acceptable in my opinion. I would say if you have 15 guests plus 2. Make 25-30, you need to save one for your 1 year anniversary but the others can go home with guests if they are not eaten at the reception. Congratulations and goodluck!! |

| I will sell you a cupcake stand for 20 dollars through pay pal which is similar to those. It is a 6 tier cupcake stand, which may be too big for your need. I would do cupcakes. Wedding sheet cake isn't as elegant. Cupcakes you get a variety of flavors, and really may them fun.For 15 people... I would order around 45 cupcakes. | Cupcakes is the bomb but the starting price is normally higher than a slice of great wedding cake if they're truly good-quality 'miniature cakes' and can run as high as $10 each or more. There's something about a huge wedding cake that makes it the focal point of any reception. I don't recommend “sheetcakes in the back" for the classy venues because guests normally look forward to a piece of "THAT" big cake! Go for cupcakes and 2 per person is really a nice idea. ღღღ |

| i am personally not a fan of cupcakes for wedding.. not typical.. but if its that small and personal.. there is no reason not to. ordering a sheet cake would be wasteful.. but always order one for you guys to cut into...= ) good luck |

| Some sheet cakes can look VERY elegant.I'm not kidding, ask your local Wal-mart bakery to show you a picture of the "Hispanic Design" (don't know why it's called that). It's gorgeous. It looks like the whole thing is covered with lace.P.S.: You can get sheet cakes with filling for just a little bit more than the regular price, too. |

| I can't imagine how cupcakes could be cheaper since they are much more labor intensive for the baker. Most bakers prefer to bake and decorate a single sheet cake than to make and decorate a hundred cupcakes. I may be the odd one out since I don't like cupcakes. Usually they have a ton of frosting on them (I love frosting, don't get me wrong) but my mouth does not open wide enough to take a bite without getting frosting all over my face. |

| Hi Ellie:If you are having a small wedding (17 total including you and your groom), I would just go with a very small wedding cake. If it is a matter of price, my suggestion to you would be to check out bakeries located in grocery stores instead of a regular bakery. Do you live by a Costco, Walmart or Publix? They have great cakes. A cake can be ordered in any size! Of course, you would not get the big 5-tier thing....you would get something small. Look at this photo. It's a little "over the top" with the base, etc., but it gives you an idea that a wedding cake doesn't need to be monstrous....it can be very elegant even though it's small. I think it would be much cheaper (for you) to get a small cake rather than getting cupcakes and a stand.Just go to a few places and inquire as to the price. It shouldn't be too much for 17 people. | Sheet cake is cheaper because it is less labor intensive for the baker. I've never been a fan of cupcakes, not because they're informal, but they are hard to eat without making a mess.edit: I have never seen anyone anywhere eat cupcakes with a fork. They are not normally eaten with a fork so most people don't set out forks to eat them with for that reason. |

| I say sheet cake. I personally don't like cupcakes I have ever had from any bakery, grocery store or any other place than the ones I bake myself. They always seem to be dry and the frosting is never soft on them. I don't like frosting that has hardened up at all. Sheet cake will be more moist if that is what you prefer. And those can be filled as well if you like. Order your cupcakes or cakes a day or two before for pick up the day of. If you order cupcakes I would do at least 2 per person. |

| For 17 people, just get one-round cake that feeds 20 people. It can be beatifully decorated, and just as affordable as a sheet-cake. Check out cakes at upscale grocery stores like Whole Foods; the cakes are gourmet and more affordable than a bakery.Cupcakes are okay, but will not necessarily be cheaper than a sheetcake or round-cake. And remind me an awful lot of kids bday parties. |
