Okay, I'm asking this out of pure curiosity. A lot of times there are questions on here asking how to have budget weddings, what the cheapest wedding someone has seen is, etc. Many times the answers do involve very fun-sounding weddings for very, very little money. In almost all of those cases, family and friends pitched in with the cooking and/or decorating and often provided the venue as well (yard, deck, etc.). So...again, out of pure curiosity...what is the most inexpensive wedding (with guests, not an elopement or at the courthouse) you've heard of when the bride and groom had no help with food, decorations, venue, etc.?Oh, I've given everyone a thumbs up just for answering!I should say, though, that I'm not looking for advice. My fiance and I have a small (and very inexpensive) ceremony in the park planned; I was just curious. I love reading stories about ingenuity.I didn't give ANYONE thumbs down. |

I went to a wedding that was in the brides parent backyard, they decorated with white lights and potted plants. Also for the reception they had it also it the backyard, the bride and groom prepared all the food for about 150 people and the favors were all the recipes. It was a nice wedding and they did all the work!

My wedding is about 2200.00. We are having a hog roast and its being catered by a legitament caterer that we know but are not getting a discount. I am wearing a real wedding dress and I found bridesmaids dresses (the girls bought) that are 41.00/dress. AND ALL OF MY GIRLS LOVED IT! I bought the sashes for 5.00/sash at Joanne Fabrics. MY flower girl dresses were 20.00/piece. and the guys bought their outfits for 70.00/piece. My dress was 150.00. Our photographer was 500.00 and we bought the memory card to have the pictures printed ourselves. I planted flowers in containers as centerpieces. The one things we had help with is my mom is a candle maker and she donated candles as our favors. But, shes my mom. Its a legitament business too. And my fiance's uncle is a minister and he is marrying us. Our venue was $98.00 at a lake and pavillion!http://www.xacc.com/parks.cfmI spent $20.00/bridesmaids gifts. I went to an antique jeweler that is helping with my rings and she had pearl necklaces. (Real saltwater pearls) for $20.00.

I went to a wedding last year, but it was a traditional wedding site. I'm not sure if the parents helped pay or not. But, it was about $70 a person (I'm familiar with the banquet hall they used, so I know the average prices). That's cheap where I'm from. They had very simple favors and a DJ. The favors actually doubled as centerpieces. No chair covers, no colored linens. I think there was a photographer there, but not for the whole thing. The guest list was also very small, the smallest I've seen. All in all, I would guess it cost about 10K for the whole thing, maybe slightly less. It was very nice and I had a great time. But, nothing about it stood out.The food was good, but there were no crazy hor d'ouevres or chocolate fountains. It was a little too simple for my taste.I'm not going to spend millions, but I just want a little more for my wedding. I'm only doing it once, so I want something like a chocolate fountation or a really incrediable cocktail hour. Not sure if that's what you meant. But, I've been to about 6 weddings recently and they all costed between 15K-30K on average. I'd like to spend about 18K on my wedding, but my parents will be contributing financially.

I saw my best friend pull together a wedding in three weeks with about 3,000! They had a private ceremony under a gazebo in a park, just her and her parents, him and his and the preacher. Then they had rented out a large meeting room at a hall for a couple hundred and had about 75-100 guests. Found a cateror to do a buffet style meal for cheap and it actually was a lot of fun. It was on the cheap side so it was very simple but it was very nice and the small size made it even better. And no this was no elopement they were planning a huge wedding said it was all too much took the money they had and just did it!

well mine will cost $5000That's with no family help with anything. We are having a 3 course meal for 60 people and putting $1000 down on the bar for drinks. A garden wedding which costs us nothing, and i am grabbing my dress for $299 of EBay.It can be done on less, but i want a wedding that i have always dreamt of without going overboard. If i skimped on anything else like decorations and such, i would just be unhappy with the whole look of everything.I know a wedding is about two people in love committed to each other, But whats the harm in making it look good at the same time.

My cousin had about 40 guests for $1000 at an afternoon wedding. It was at some kind of a small community center. She got pre-made deli trays of lunch meats and cheeses and different breads. I want to say she had a few sides but I really can't remember what they were. She had a sheet cake. She probably could have spent less but she bought some top shelf liquor. Her mom did pay for her dress. It was nice except there was no music. I think they intended to bring a boombox but forgot it.

My parents got married for $800. They didn't have much help. My moms dress was $200. Their cake was $100. She bought shoes from the Salvation Army for $2. She did her own hair and make up. They had some help I guess. My dad borrowed a suit from his friend and since my grandpa was a deacon at the church they didn't charge anything. So they got to use the churches dishes and punch bowl and cups. That was a favor, I guess...We're hoping to not go over $1000. I set a $200 limit on my dress (my mom did it and looked great so, so can I) He's wearing a suit he already owns. We'll only have 15 guests so we'll probably have them over at our house for a BBQ or something. A sheet cake. I'll have a friend do my make up and try and figure out my hair (its short and thin and wont curl or do anything nice) That's the most help we're getting, only because I'm not very girly and not very good at that stuff. We're hoping to spend a lot less than $1000. Probably impossible though. We'll see...

Hmmmm. That's a good question. One of the cheapest but one of the nicest put together weddings I have ever been to cost the couple $1,800. This was for 50 guests. She made EVERYTHING except her dress, and his wedding attire. That they bought at a dress shop that was going out of business. The dress she bought was originally $2500, and she got it for $35.00. His suit was originally $250.00.. and he got it for $17.00. Good luck to you. |

OH my gosh I wish that ours was $500 like someone else had posted. We are getting married August 16th and although he does help with ideas when I really ask, and he's the one paying I will give him that, this wedding is on my shoulders... We are doing it all for $4,600.

Well, I'm not sure how much money my brother and sister-in-law spent on their wedding, but I can tell you that they were able to cut some corners. I was a bridesmaid, and my dress cost about $15 or so. What my sis-in-law did was go to a store and pick out a really pretty pink and mauve tank top. It was really frilly and lacey. Then she went to a fabric store and bought a shiny, satiny pink material and made the skirt (and she made the poufy slip too). When the tank top and the skirt with the slip were put together, it made such a beautiful ball gown type of dress. It didn't even look like it was two pieces! She also made her own centerpieces, boutonnieres, bouquets, and corsages herself; she went to the farmer's market the night before and bought a ton of flowers for much cheaper than a florist could have done. And you know what? Everything looked gorgeous!
