I've gained a little weight, plus my wedding might have to be moved toward later in the year. So I needed a new dress. I found a great one online, but it did look, as a few YA folks pointed out, a bit young for my age. I could have had it altered in ways that would still make it great, but decided to look a couple of towns over first. I thought I'd hit the sales and consignment shops and see if I fell in love with something else. Argh! At one shop, I rang the buzzer and lady came to the door, barely opening it and asking, "Yes? Can I do something for you?""I'm getting married again and need a dress, " I reply. "Ahem," says she, looking me up and down in a disapproving way, "Might I suggest you go to David's Bridal. We don't have anything that fits...regular sized people." She said "regular" as though it were a euphemism for obese, which I'm not (baby got back, you know, but I wear about a 12 or 14 in a bridal dress, and an 8 or 10 in a regular dress). And it shouldn't matter anyway!Everyone deserves to be treated decently, whether the clothes will fit or not! I was so stunned...I just stammered, "Uh, okay," and she shut the door. The kicker is, she outweighed me by quite a bit. How low must her self esteem be that she needs to align herself so closely with smaller sized people that she's hateful to those who aren't?So what's YOUR horrible clerk/owner story? I'd love to hear!P.S. I ended up finding an absolutely FABULOUS gown, brand new, for $35.00 at Dillard's! It's so true that you have to try things on...I almost didn't, because it definitely didn't knock my socks off hanging on the rack.My fiance suggested the same thing about it being a store for larger women. It isn't, though...I looked it up when I got home. It sells pageant-type dresses, very expensive. She probably sized up from my jeans and t-shirt that I wasn't in that market...I'm not, but it's a stupid assumption...loads of people wear jeans and t-shirts bumming around town...and I wouldn't let him, but my fiance already offered to buy me my dream dress. I'm sure the dresses wouldn't have fit, but one could have been ordered that did.

My friend's friend is getting married, and she told me this story which is quite like yours but different. We'll call my friend's friend Sara. Well,Sara walked into a specialty bridal shop with gowns, shoes, lingerie, you name it,they had it. Well, she had a consultation for sizing and stuff, and she arrived early. Her consultant was on break at the time,so the person on duty actually went up to Sara, sized up her,and said "What makes you think we have your size? I doubt we even have your shoe size." right to her face!

I don't have a real horror story like that. I would just sound whiny if I talked about it... since it boiled down to not getting any help. but what I wanted to ask was if you were sure that store was for skinny people or if it was for plus size people. my future MIL is overweight and talks about wanting to fit in a regular size. maybe that disdain was jealousy? so my thought was she turned you away because you were too skinny not too fat. ;o)

Mine was for prom, not a wedding. I found a dress in a magazine that I wanted and the line was sold in two stores within an hour's drive of my home. I went to the closest, but was forewarned she was of from a eastern block country and MORE than direct. I showed her the halter dress I wanted, knowing that was the best style for my shoulders. She disagreed. She wanted to order a red or bright blue for me. I disagreed. She FINALLY got out the book to calculate the price and to determine the right size. She then told my mom she didn't want to order it for me, because she never wants one her dresses on the wrong body type. She grabs my button-up shirt and pulls it open baring my shoulders --- POPPING two buttons off. "This is the kind of dress I order for her or you leave." We left and ordered it from the store an hour's drive away. I got compliments all night! (The store's closed now... hmmm!!!)

I was tryign on dresses at a bridal shop and when I was in the change room the sales lady just opened the door and walked right in while I was in my bra and thong...like totally just opened the curtain and came in without closing it behind her or anything. I turned around and told her to get out and that if I needed her help I would ask for it. I ended up buying the dress there becuase it fit without needing to be altered and I only had 3 weeks till my wedding to get a dress, but I would have loved to tell her to stuff it then file a complaint.

This wasn't actually for my wedding dress, but my grad dress. I found one Ioved, and when it came in, it needed some alterations. This was like a month before grad. Two weeks before grad I started panicking, it wasnt ready yet. A week before I was calling every day, wanting to know where my dress was. I ended up getting it the day before grad! It was so stressfull.
