My 3 month old has recently began to tilt her head to one side..she's been lifting her head since she was born and she always seemed to lift it straight but now just recently...like 2 or so weeks ago she started to tilt it to one side when she lifts it. My mother is the one who brought it to my attention and now it concerns me. She mentioned to me that she may be deaf in one ear so she tilts her head to hear out of the good ear...i plan to ask her dr on wed. when she has her check up..but i was wondering if anyone else has had a similar issue...thanx a bunch Smile

I doubt she is deaf in one ear - maybe she just feels comfy tilting her head - most adults do it occasionaly - especially when tired. There could be something annoying her neck.It could be a number of things - check with the doctor and if they dismiss it just say that you are worried. Sorry I wasnt much help

i doubt she's deaf. more likely it's just her working on figuring out how her head works...lol. sounds funny, but babies that tiny are still learning how to control the muscles in their bodies. sometimes they will favor a side that they have more control over than another.

It is possible that one of the nerves in your daughter's eyes is longer than the others. There are four nerves that hold the eye in place and when one is even a tiny bit longer it will cause the child to see double. To compensate the child tilts their head to see properly. In this case, the way to fix this is a surgery that corrects the length of the nerve. That may not be what your daughter has but you will want to take your daughter to an eye doctor. I don't think she is deaf in one ear. I really do think it is a vision problem she is trying to compensate for. I mean, her vision is probably good, but the enlongated nerve might be altering her vision in a way that makes her automatically try to compensate.Try this. Cover one eye with a scarf or patch. Does she change her head position? Try covering the other eye and uncovering the first. Does she change it now? If yes, the problem I described above is likely the issue. If not, still see an optomitrist and see what they say.http://www.emedicine.com/oph/byname/Trochlear-Nerve-Palsy.htmhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Congenital_fourth_nerve_palsyI hope you get this straightened out soon. I know it is stressful but I think in your case this is something that can be corrected completely.

Have you had her checked for torticollis? That is a condition where the baby prefers one side over the other. (For example, they may prefer to always look to the left instead of the right) an early diagnosis and physiotherapy started early can fix this. My daughter was diagnosed with this when she was 2months old. She had physio and I did some excercises with her and by 6 months it resolved. I would look into it, it sounds similar to what my baby had.

My daughter did the same thing and my father freaked me out by telling me there must be something terribly wrong with her to be doing it. Nope. She just likes to tilt her head. She would only do it on one side but after about 2 or 3 weeks she started doing it on both sides. Now she doesn't do it anymore (shes 11 months) but she does like to tilt her head from side to side when I feed her. She thinks its funny when I complain about the mess she makes when she does it. Little turd. Parents will always suggest the worst possible thing when it comes to your child. Don't let it get to you. I gave up on listening to mine. Its always something negative even if they always mean well. Just enjoy the little things she does.
