does anyone else feel that weddings are just entirely pretentious and generally pointless? a couple's love doesn't suddenly become stronger because of the simple fact they married, they're just as likely to break up as they were before, except now it's going to be much more complicated. they can be just as in love with each other and not be married can't they? and if they can't, then that's a pretty crappy love to begin with. everyone wants to throw some extravagent expensive indulgent wedding, invite every person they've ever met throughout their live, make them dress up, and buy them an expensive gift. i ask you, what is the point of all this?*life*spelling correction

I completely agree but I do enjoy going to weddings lol. Some people like the planning and the whole ceremony and stuff. I can go down to the Justice of the Peace and get married and be perfectly content.

I completely agree, the only problem is that not everyone is of the same mind. Some things are taken badly if you arent married. Children is a big one. Other things is that it makes it official, you can get some benefits if you are married, not if you aren't.

I have seen countless friends a relatives go through these productions called a wedding and it seems very stressful and expensive. It seems to take away from the whole point of doing it.

Nice generalization you have there.Spouse and I married in a courthouse - it cost us some gas and the filing fees.We renewed our vows - it cost $500 - including travel, camping costs for over a week for 11 people, gas, food for after, clothing, rental of the place, rental of tables and chairs. There were very few gifts the second time, none the first. Nor did we make anyone "dress up" besides us.Wow - how extravagant. Marriage offers MANY legal benefits which are NOT available to the unmarried.
