hi,my husband has worked for the same family business for 17 yrs now.about 18mnths ago it got sold lock stock and barrel.my husband was part of the sale, now he went in work on wed to be told the current owner has sold it and of sat he will be no longer employed, his boss is offering him £2000 but is this right??has he been made redundant and is this allowed what this guy is doing, surely there are laws to protect people from things like this happening,he basically told my husband that the company has no money in it other than on paper and that was all he could give him,any advice will be welcome as we dont really know where we stand legally..he did actually say that if we went through court it would take months by which time we could have lost our house, not sure if this is just a threat. thanks in advance for any help xx

The new owners should have a copy of your husbands contract. firstly ask for that. Then I would either contact a good solicitor or a good union official. £2000 for 17 years service is a joke. Contact the T&G Union or ACAS. They will advise you on everything you need to know, best of luck to you on everything let us know what happens.

That's nowhere near enough. There are fixed levels of minimum payment as stated by law..Go to the government website and find out what your rights are. They are not allowed to fob him off with a couple of grand for that amount of service.Don't forget that you can use the Citizens Advice Bureau which is free. Find out where your local one is and make an appointment.

i think you should go to the citizens advice bureau they may be able to help you with giving you free legal information about your husbands employee rights?
