I'm getting married in September and I need to get my invitations out next month. On the response cards I didn't know if you were supposed to put down the specific dish ie-'chicken cordon bleu', or if you can just generally write, 'chicken, fish' etc.. I haven't gone for my appointment with the wedding coordinator yet to taste anything, and the time i do that will be way past when I wanted the invites to come back..Help!

Just list the group category, ex: chicken, fish, beef, etc. However if you know there might be something out of the ordinary, like super spicy chicken or something like that which people may need to know, I woul dput in Parenthesis! Good luck!

I wouldn't list it as "chicken, fish, beef". You should put the exact dish "Chicken Cordon Bleu", "Salmon with dill sauce", "Prime Rib".Why?Different people like different things or have food allergies or intolerances and you don't want your guests to end up not being able to eat what the item really is when it comes out on their plate.Examples -- My fiance, generally speaking, likes fish but won't eat salmon ( I can't even get him to try it!). Chicken alfredo with a creamy sauce might not be good for someone lactose intolerant, even though they usually eat chicken.I happen to have food allergies and have to be careful with what I choose to avoid having an allergic reaction. "Chicken, Fish, Beef" might seem like the easy route, but I don't recommend it at all.Your guests should know what the items really are before they choose.Edit - when I have attended a wedding and a choice of dishes was offered in advance, I always was told what the actual food was, not just the general 'chicken', 'fish', 'beef'.

Most people just do "chicken, beef, fish" etc. I'm going to say it depends on you, more than anything. If you want to write down the complete dish, go for it! I completely understand where the previous poster is coming from.

It's really better to list the specific dish.If you have a wedding coordinator, surely she would understand that you need to do the tasting much sooner? If you've got the venue, this shouldn't be a problem.

i think putting the exact dish might be more helpful.. for instance, maybe in general you like chicken better, but this particular dish you don't like and would rather have steak.... i don't think it's a big deal though if you put the general categories... it's not a restaurant... make sure you have a spot for dietary needs too.
