I am in my good friends wedding party. The other groomsmen are all first timers like me. We have no idea about what to get the groom or what an expected value of the gift shoud be. We were thinking about cash becuase of the expense of the weeding. Also, do I have to get him a gift in additional to the groomsmen gift?

I think cash is always a great wedding gift. I've never heard of a groomsmen gift seperate from the wedding- but maybe some people do that. I don't see the need at all. Was there a bachelor party at all that you guys paid for? If not, then if you really want to do something for him, maybe have all the guys take him golfing and pick up the tab- if you in fact golf.

For our wedding, the groomsmen did not go together on a gift from the group, but each gave gifts to us as a couple as anyone attending would.

I have been a best man twice. The first time, all the groomsman got engraved silver flasks, with a bottle of fine whiskey as s bonus for the best man. The second wedding, the groomsman all received a giant (2 quart?) crystal beer mug with an engraved plaque on it.As far as a wedding gift, I have always given a regular gift as thought I was not in the wedding party.Hope that helps.

You just get them a gift as you would like any other guest. So don't get them two separate gifts. Its the bride and groom that buy the wedding party gifts to say thank you for your support and friendship during the whole wedding process. Not the other way round. Unless you really feel privileged to ba a part of the wedding and do something extra special, but that's completely up to you.

Typically the groomsmen are not expected to get the groom a gift. The groom gives the groomsmen personalized gifts to thank them for being in the wedding. If the grromsmen want to give a gift you can buy something for the couple. You should also take him out for a batchelor party. Maybe golfing, fishing, whatever you guys like to do together.

No, I don't see why you would need two gifts..Yet, I didn't know the groomsmen gave the groom a gift. Usually the groom will give the groomsmen a gift as a thank you for being apart of the wedding. Then just like any-other guest, you would give the couple a wedding gift, such as money or something from their registry. I've never been in or known of a wedding where the groomsmen got a gift for the groom. Besides, maybe a beer the night before the wedding or a bachelor party. I don't think you need to do an additional gift. Usually the best man will throw the bachelor party and he may ask for help from the other groomsmen. Other then that, i'm pretty sure you don't need to give the groom a gift besides the wedding gift to the couple.

Why do you have to give something typical? Why not something that is usefull? Maybe you could all chip in and pay for a weekend getaway for the new couple. Or, like my groomsmen, chip in for the first months groceries... Try buying a nice romantic dinner...If the gift is large enough, then you don't have to do something seperate as the new couple will know that you put it for the gift.
