Ummm... honestly, I don't. I think an associate's degree would be fine. For wedding photography, the amount you make depends more on experience rather than education... but having a bachelor's degree sure won't hurt.

Having a degree might further your chances of getting highed at a reputable studio or team. But honestly, a bride is going to go straight to your portfolio and then maybe look at your background and credentials. If your portfolio is lacking at first sight, she'll move on and won't ever notice the degree anyway. I think the only reason someone should get a degree in photography is if they know it will further their chances at a studio, or if they know of a good college program that will let them explore thier options in photography and/or learn extensively. For myself, I chose a degree for both of those reasons. The studio I work on-and-off with will provide a high starting income when I finish my degree in a year. It's a studio I thoroughly enjoy working with and I know having a degree with prove beneficial in the future there. I'm also a senior in a great photography progam at my university. When I picked up photogrpahy, I wanted to learn as much as I could. And I wanted a chance to explore all aspects of photography. By the time I've explored all options and the specific classes that go with them, I'll have all the requirements for the photography degree. So, I think a degree specifically for wedding photography won't matter much to a freelance photographer. It may benefit you in a studio or team looking to hire. And you may learn a great deal from the classes associated with the degree. But I personally recommend obtaining a general photography degree, if any degree at all.

A client is more interested in your portfolio and what your style is than a piece of paper on the wall. When someone is looking for a wedding photographer these days, the website is the first thing they see before even talking to you, usually. They get recommendations from friends, the place holding the reception, wedding planners, etc. You set your price, but you better be able to make it worth it for the customer. You get paid by experience, quality, and talent.

I was not aware that there is such a thing as BA for Wedding Photography. A degree in photography - did you mean? Anyway, the other answers are right on. I'd rather be looking at a photographer's photos than the degree on the wall or even what camera he has.

alot of professional photographers do not have a degree from college. They take extensive seminars.. but it's one of those things... you have it or you dont. I would suggest getting a Business Degree that way you know how to manage anything you choose to do.. then do photography on the side untill it takes off.check out www.ppa.com
