Well, a good SLR or DSLR (preferably Nikon or Canon) with a good wide angle lens, as well as a decent telephoto to get some close-ups with out actually being so "close up." Both lenses should have VR since these pictures will most likely be indoors, where lighting is poor, and ideally, they would have a max aperture of at least f2.8, again, because of the poor lighting.

The one that you trained with when you were an assistant to a real wedding photographer.

Seems like your professional enough. I mean, you're taking wedding pictures, so they have to be the best they can be right? the upper nikons and canon are the best in the wedding photography class. But, don't expect to spend under 6,000$, if you have a studio or are a " photographer " you need the best of the best.Oh, let's say you have 6,000$ dollars to spend, you should get the nikon d3, it's the most expensive nikon digital slr on the market today. It has twelve megapixels, a three inch screen, and every professional feature you'd ever wish to have Razz.http://www.amazon.com/Nikon-12-1MP-Digital-Camera-Body/dp/B000VRV6LY/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1213118798&sr=8-1it's around 4,800$, but with the shipping and all of that, and shipping insurance, so the shipping would be like 200 dollars, but that's not the only cost. You need to get a flash, it doesn't come with one at all, and you never now when you'll need one, here's one that i suggest.http://www.amazon.com/Nikon-SB-800-Speedlight-Digital-Cameras/dp/B00015GYU4/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1213118923&sr=1-2that's the speedlight sb-800, it's 320$, but you need it :PThen you need to get a lens, it doesn't come with one either, so that's another expense:http://www.amazon.com/Nikon-50mm-Nikkor-Digital-Cameras/dp/B00005LENO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1213119035&sr=1-1that's the 50mm f/1.4 lens, which will be needed for individual portraits, and little groups and landscapes.http://www.amazon.com/Nikon-70-300mm-4-5-5-6G-Digital-Cameras/dp/B000HJPK2C/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1213119100&sr=1-1that's the vibration reduction 70-300mm lens, which is needed for zoomin, i mean you can't be right up in the wedding right?, So, having all of that said, you'd have to spend 6,199$, which is alot of money, but you need it if you're going to be professional photographer, of course if you have to have the absolute best, you should get the canon eos 1ds mark 111.

In Short you need a good SLR or DSLR. a powerful flash and maybe a tripod.Lens choice I would use a Nikkor 24-70mm AF-S or my 35-70mm AF-D First and foremost you need experience if you have none don't shoot a weeding the results can be catastrophic and spending 6 grand wont change that. My wife assisted a pro for over a year before shooting a wedding solo something to think about.

I agree that Nikon would be your best bet, however you can get a Nikon D300 for under $2000. It may not be a "full frame sensor" but you still would be getting a great camera for weddings. You could get three for the price of a D3. Also as a wedding photographer you are going to want a backup, just incase your camera breaks. Nikons are built great, but that doesn't make them invincible. Your clients are going to want to know if you have a back up camera. If you went and bought only one camera (D3), and you couldn't afford the second, then you could loose possible clients because you don't have a backup. The megapixels are the same. The D3 may shoot one frame more than the D300, but you aren't talking about sports photography, but wedding photography. Even with that said, 6 - 8 frames per second is good enough. Stick with Nikon, but as a wedding photographer the D300 is by far good enough. Besides, it's not always the camera, it takes a person who knows how to shoot behind it.
