I'm British/Irish (dual), my fiancée is American and we live in Dublin, Ireland. We've been going out for several years and have been engaged for 18 months. We plan to settle in Dublin, we have good jobs here and a mortgage. The thing is we would like to get married in the USA, mainly because my fiancée's parents are paying for the wedding and they are inviting more people than I am.Bearing in mind that we will both be returning to Dublin after the wedding and honeymoon. Am I right in assuming I don't need a special visa and can enter under the visa waiver scheme? It's so hard to find the answer to what seems like a simple question, so can anyone here assist?

You should be okay, however, you are going to need all the proof you can muster that you will be leaving the USA and returning to Ireland after the wedding. Take letters from both your employers, house/apartment lease or mortgage documents, banking information and anything else you can think of. If you can prove your ties to Ireland they'll let you in.

If you plan to return to Ireland once you are married, then no, you do not require a visa to enter the U.S. for the purpose of marriage, the VWP is perfectly fine. Just remember to bring evidence of your ties back home for which you intend to return to i.e. proof of employment, enrollment in school, mortgage, lease, offspring etc.Just remember however, that your then wife, will need a visa to re-enter the U.K once you are married and you return. One further point to note, on the visa waiver, you will only have a maximum period of 90 days to remain in the U.S, so make sure that your wedding and honeymoon period do not exceed this duration, if it does, you should consider applying for a B2 visa at the U.S. Embassy.
