Have booked the venue: 600 (including site and reception)Have booked the photographer: 1,600so that's $2200. My wedding is over a year away. (october 09)What is the thing I need to do next. I know I have a while, but I graduate college in May and I'll be busy so I'm trying to get as much done as possible before then!I've looked at checklists and i'm no theknot.com, but I would like to know what I need to do next.My budget is 5,000. Any suggestions for keeping it cheap?! I would LIKE to keep it under 4,000, but I can't spend anymore then 5,000. I'm doing all silk flowers, besides the bouquets. Thanks =)i'm spending so much on a photographer, because that is the one thing I went crazy on and we will have those pictures forever.i'm not having a dinner!just snacks. I'm having the wedding around 2:00and a friend can dj for freeWell Okay I'll explain MORE!I have a family friend doing the centerpieces and she's paying for all those flowers, it's a wedding present to us. A friend is doing the DJ for free. Our reception food is going to cost about $350.NOBODY in our family does dinner at weddings so it's completely normal. We're having a very relaxed reception, with dancing, music, and having fun. We are having a slide show of us played while we are taking pictures. The reception is going to take about 2 1/2 hours with all that. The wedding will be at 2:30 and then the reception will be around 3:30-6:00 or whenever they leave. People....this is normal in our family. So with all that saving, I'm saving like 2,000 because people are helping us! So really our budget is over 7,000... but we aren't spending it all. You know, all I asked was what to do next. I didn't need all the extra comments like 'that's too much for a photographer'. That's normal for a photographer.I'm actually getting it for the cheapest that I can around here. And they are including a whole lot with it like the cd with all the pictures. This is what I want, but thanks....

Buy the dress `out of season` so Novemeber/December time is good. Organise transport (if you need it) and the catering as soon as possible so you can sort out prices. Shop around for invitations (or make your own) and decorations for the tables.

I think you should figure out all the big stuff first:FoodBeveragesOfficiantDecor for the receptionBridesmaids dresses & accessoriesWedding Gown & accessories(you have plenty of time for a cake and all that, but time will fly by really fast, so you may as well start looking around.) Save as much money as possible because things add up extremely fast. For decor, gifts and other stuff, use http://www.orientaltrading.com/ui/shared/sharedFlowController.goToBrowseController.do?requestURI=viewEndecaCategory&categoryId=377344&tabId=PartySuppliesThey have great deals, cheap prices, fast delivery, and good quality on products. I bought a lot of decor, chair covers, gifts for the bridal party, and things for a sand ceremony from there, and am satisfied with all of it!

Are you having a DJ or band? Maybe book that now. Don't know how you feel about second hand dresses - but my cousin got a gorgeous dress at a second hand shop for $250 - and seriously it was gorgeous! $1600 seems like a lot for a photographer - it's 1/4 of your budget - anyway to get them lower - can you just book the photographer for an hour or so. You don't say what you are doing for food - so not sure about that. You can save a lot of money also by doing your own invitations.

geez, people! like you really NEED all these things in order to have a nice ceremony. ah, of course! you'll have a kick a$$ dress to wear once & flowers that will wilt after 3 days. just as long as you go into debt paying for it all & stress yourself until you get an ulcer. whatever makes you happy, right?*sighs* i never understand why people contribute to the commercialism of weddings. if you really want to keep it cheap, go to the courthouse & get your $40-ish marriage license & have a justice of the peace marry you. or you could have a wedding at a local church or even your own home, have a friend do the photos & mom make a nice cake. why does it always have to be so extravagant?

for a 5k wedding, that was an awful lot to spend on a photographer...Make you own invitations. I was planning on buying some of that smaller vellum paper, and printing a photograph of us on separate paper to put behing the vellum.See if there's a pastry chef student in a nearby college that would like to expand their portfolio, same if you want live music, videography, maybe even catering.Or family can help with the food. I found that food and the dress were going to be the most expensive things.I hope that helps a bit...Good luckPS, I got tired of trying to cut corners to make a budget, so we are having our celebration in a cruise with only 7 guests (we are helping with their travel expenses-not all of it, but a good 1/3) 7 days of fun, instead of one!

I think you should look into the caterer next. I think you will surprised at how few people you are going to be able to invite, given your budget. Then look into a DJ. I think, on a national average, they are around $800 (because of where I live, my was twice that). So after you do that, you will have a better idea of how many centerpieces, favors, size of cake, etc that you will need. You can then start searching for things in your price range and have plenty of time to find some really great bargains. Silk flowers are far cheaper than real, but they still aren't cheap so maybe start looking into the best places to purchase those, as well. I am concerned that, given your budget, you have already spent more money on things than you should have. Does the knot have a budget calculator where you put in your budget and the number of people you want to invite- then spit out a list of how much you should budget for each thing? I just put $4500 into my calculator, said you were inviting 100 people of which 75 would show up and it said you should spend $245 on the location and $360 on photography!!

Save more money on the flowers!Costco Roses $15 for two dozen!Cup cakes instead of Cake are such a perfect and beautiful way to save money. They are way more trendy in my opinion (I didn't do it but wished I had), the cost of the cake is expensive enough.....no one really gets a "Pretty" looking peice of cake....many never even get a chance to getting around to see it anyway, then the hall will charge you 5 bucks extra a person JUST TO HAVE IT SERVED! With cupcakes, guests can help themselves, and the best part is plenty of different flavors can be made for more options.Rather than have seating cards have table numbers and a alphabatized list to what table guests can sit at. This saves morey and time for you too. I had table names of all the special places that we visited, and on the back was the short story of why the place was special to us.....like where he proposed, place of first kiss, . Next on the list for you though......I'd pull together your guest list....just the people you know FOR SURE are going. Get their addresses now so that it's one less address you'll have to get later. Getting head start on that NOW trust me will save you head aches later. Hit up Target around January when the wedding invites go on sale.......$20 for 50 pretty white invites? and $2.oo for thanks yous? WHAT A STEAL!!!! Next things to think about booking:Music/DJ/ or person to download music for IPOD "IPOD DJ"Transportation?Bridal suite at hotel?FORGET FAVORS!!!! They are a Waste! WITH A CAPITAL W!!!! If you must, go for a candy table Get some glass punch bowls from family and friends and fill them with gummy bears, twizzlers, pistachios, mints, dot candy sheets spead out on the table, big lolly pops.....whatever, have at it! Have a blast! Good luck and congrats!!!Oh P.S....when all is said and done and you add up ALL the wedding costs with flowers, food , music, photog, hall, invites and divide the price by how many people are there........We averaged it was 100 per person. Good luck hun!

What a huge waste on a photographer. i know you said it was the most important, but what are you taking photos of...is it just going to be like a glorified photo shoot? doesnt sound like youre having much of a reception. In my opinion spend money on making actual memories not photos of you in a dress and him in a tux. i will probably get plenty of thumbs down for this answer, but I honestly think your priorities are all out of whack.
