We are thinking about either getting married in January on our anniversary or in June. We are definately on a budget!!!! Probably no more than I'd say... $3000? I'm not sure what all I need for a wedding.. Ya know.. never done this before!? We're thinking about getting married at the church and having the reception at my parent's house. What are some good/cheap ideas for a reception?? Probably no more than 50 guests, if that. Just close family and friends. Please don't tell me to go to websites, like theknot.com and all that stuff.. I have.. I am just asking for personal experiences. What ALL do I need for the wedding? For the reception? For the guests? Flowers? etcThanks!

I was lucky and knew a photographer and someone that did cakes. If you have friends that can hook you up, that will definately be cheaper. Try renting/borrowing a dress rather than buying. Also make a list and prioritize. Number things that are most important and start buying those. Then if you run out of money, it's just little things you can do without. You can also make your own decorations/centerpieces and desserts for the reception. That will save a lot.

I would get catered from a small family owned shop. I got my flowers from publix, very cheap and good quality. I had my friend taking photos, friend officiant. cake from publix VERY cheap and GREAT quality. I got my invitations and printed them myself, $20 for 50 invites. Got my thank you's at Michaels ccraft store for $1 for 6. Got tea and little candy hearts for my favor bags. Got a lot of great stuff at the dollar store like place cards, decorations, baskets for the bridesmaids. got my sweethearts ring online for only $365. The best thing I did was invited my mom's friend who's sone has just gotten married help. she had so many good ideas to save money! Good luck!@

thankfully, 50 guests on $3000 seems do-able. if you can afford catering at your parent's house, i'd go that route... takes the pain out of prepping food. Flowers (centerpieces/bouquets) can be pricey, but if you DIY, then you might be able to save some money... you'll probably need to rent tables & chairs, and find an affordable dress. if you have bridesmaids & groomsmen, then you might want to ask them to pay for their own dresses/suits and shoes. good luck!

best to keep your wedding small with that budget. does that include your dress and tux rental?$25-$150 for church rental and or clergyman fees depending if you use your own church.wedding gown-$300 and up! brides maid $50-150ushers and groom tux rental $50 and up.best to keep the bridal party small. We just had maid of honor and best man.Church flowers- we doubled up with another party. they had their ceremony first, and then we had our wedding second, same day. double the flowers for the same amount of money. photographer and video: we had it professionally done but if you have relatives that you trust, that would be the cheapest option.transportation to your parent's house- we did classic car rental but you can also do a limo rental or borrow one of your friends/or relatives sporty car for the distance.friend that will be a DJ at the party. have a list of songs prepared. rent the tents at a rental place.cake-do sheet cake for the guests and have the bakery do a tiny 2 layer wedding cake just for you two.make your own cookies. make it pot luck or buffet. good luck

ok so no websites, well there is one that i have used alot and like: www. favorideas.comok so do you have a theme? once you have a theme or even colors we can go from there...i'm also doing a small, country semi formal wedding....its at my sisters ranch, we had to rent a tent, but i live in florida (its too hot, needed it) and we got the table and chairs from my grandmother she belongs to the amvets and eagles, centerpieces are mason jars (walmart 12-$7) candles(cinnonmon 12 $6) with red bandanna in the middle and little metal pales with peanuts ( all for $25) then we are having a bbq (feeding 75ppl $200) table clothes you can buy cheap at walmart or rent them from a party store.*you can make your food a pot luck or just simple appitizers(meatballs, cheese crackers, fingure sandwiches)*your dress find a white or off white prom dress, they are usually on sale right about now or even rent a dress*cake make your own or just get some differnt sheet cakes from a bakery most will do pictures right on the cake*groom depends on how formal (mine is kakahi pants and white dress shirt) we arent haveing groomsmen or bridesmaid to help cut down on cost*photos find a family member or close friend who has a nice camera and give them a list of what you them to take pictures of and how*flowers i bought all fake flowers, michaels or a craft store will do a bouquet and boutineer for $25*favors you dont have to have you can do little bags with dinner mints or mini candy bars.

I am going to start out by recommending a website to you:indiebride.comthere are lots of ideas and a message board with ideas to get around the WIC - -the wedding industrial complex that tells you what you have to have and seeks to part you with your money.I got married in August outdoors in a beautiful private garden. The setting pretty much took care of flowers and decorations though we had bouquets and boutineres. My dress was made for me and cost $200. I have recommended on a lot of my answers Target.com for wedding and bridesmaids dresses. They are inexpensive and something the women will wear again most likely. They get good reviews for the most part.I also like sydneyscloset.com (especially if there are plus sized women involved but they come in regular sizes too) and therosedress.com (although their prices have gone up lately!)If you want something sort of unique and antique looking http://www.raspberryberet.com/I had the men wear their own dark suits. If they do not have dark suits then renting may be the best option but Target.com also has some nice looking suit separates and if the guy only wears a suit rarely then it does not have to be the most expensive thing.I had a flower girl because my best friend had a bonus baby sister who was six whom I was close to. Otherwise I would not have had kids in the wedding. She was very cute though and she did an important thing -- my mom had passed away so in addition to her basket of flowers she gave a single rose to groom`s mom and put a single rose on an empty chair for mine.Rings -- we went to a local (not chain) store and got simple gold bands for about $200 total. You could get simple silver bands for $25-50 each as placeholders yet they will look nice and last until you get something more expensive (if you do) without turning your fingers green. ;-)Some churches have decorations: tulle and chiffon and bows and silk flowers etc. that you could use to decorate the church. At the reception shimmery white fabric goes a long way to make the place festive along with white twinkle lights which can be had on a budget. Food: I had an afternoon summer wedding and had an afternoon snack reception with meat and cheese trays etc. plus drinks and cake. If I had it to do over I would be a bit more imaginative with the food. I went one-stop-shop at the supermarket deli and bakery for all the food and drinks and cake. The cake was beautiful. You don`t have to break the bank for cake and can still get something pretty and tasty.Ceremony music: in this day and age I would go with recorded music. pianobrothers.com has their music for any kind of wedding and any musical taste available on CD or download or sheet music if you have musicians you know who could play piano or violin etc. Of course the whole reason I eschewed the church wedding was because I really dislike organ music. My piano teacher from 1st grade through high school was our church organist and I loved her dearly but she had retired and moved and I realized without her I hated organ music. If you like organ music then by all means do the church organ thing. I guess all the music would depend on your personal taste but if you do not have live music - violinist; pianist; etc. that you really want I would do the CD/download thing.Same for reception -- assuming your parents do not have a huge house for dancing then downloads for reception music should be fine. If it was me and I was not really wanting alcohol at the reception then I would actually think about having the reception in the church reception hall. It should not cost too much and they will have the tables chairs linens dishes silver etc. right there. You might go on Craigslist and hire some servers/cleanup for a flat rate for the day. It would save your parents a lot of hassle and unless your mom is the consummate hostess she likely does not have 50 place settings.Of course you could go with fancy paper plates and clear plastic ware and be fine too.Entertainment at the reception: you could put an ad on Craigslist or at a local college for an artist to come and do caricatures or charcoal drawings of the guests during the reception. Set the artist up in a corner and guests can come over. Hang the drawings on a clothesline and they can take them after they leave.Photography: also Craigslist -- set your budget and see who answers or see if there is anyone out there for time for prints.Summer wedding at parents: if you can get permission to have a bonfire/firepit in the back yard you can find (maybe on Craigslist again) a musician to come and play your reception. There are many local musicians in my area at least who really like the intimate venue of a house party or bonfire. This would work in the church hall without the bonfire too if you have a way to gather the chairs around and do not have the entire hall filled with long tables.Get copies of the book If and set out on the reception tables for guests to start conversing. Flowers: I had white roses and daisies - heavy on the daisies -- for my summer wedding. It was formal yet not sort of like my wedding. Like I said my venue was so beautiful I did not need extra decoration. Your parents house or a plain hall might need something. I actually do think the websites are a good source of ideas for centerpieces etc. (I had no centerpieces on my reception tables but again we were in a floral paradise already). So...those are my ideas. I planned it all in six weeks and stayed within budget.

well $3000 is pretty tight.try an afternoon tea type reception - a little like a cocktail style reception where everyone is standing up or you can do it in the garden and set up chairs and small tables...you can get all the oldies in the family mum, grandma, aunt from both sides to make some baked goods and even some finger sandwiches...think high tea or something...the rest you can buy...you can have tea, coffee and juice/soft drink and it should be pretty cheap.did you want it to be formal? flowers or some kind of theme always set the atmosphere so it wouldn't hurt to go to the flower market and buy somewhat do you want?? what do you like? have a think about how you want it to work...ask some specific questions, i could write for hours as to how you could plan a wedding but take a look at some of the questions from the last few days which have been very similar. i've answered a few like this one.

well you could have everyone if your family make a dish for the reception...that would save alot! or if you have an aunt or cousin that bakes ask them to make your cake. For music you could buy {if you don't have one} an ipod or mp3 player instead of using a dj. For bridesmaids and groomsmen gifts check out overstock.com or even ebay.com. for your dress go to davids bridal when they have those $99 sales. don't worry about favors if your budget doesn't allow for it. if you want to do them do candy...cheap and people will love it more then other crap people give.HOPE I HELPED! GOOD LUCK

Hey! Congratulations! First of, Its OK, Calm Down, you will be fine. I Planned my own Wedding So I completaly Understand your pains. I had closer to 120 guests to accompany but many of them did not stay for the reception. Below I will list in about the right time line how and when to do things. they are just suggestions but a lot of them worked for me. After this please feel free to yahoo or email me and I can try to find pictures on some of the Ideas I give you. be open to my Ideas though, as I do not know your theme, colors, beliefs! ok?here we go:Jan Wedding: Determine the theme. some Ideas are Winter wonderland Blues and whites (if you are traditional) Fire and Ice which would be glass decorartions and Deep Reds(if you want something more modern) also style, entertwining hearts, Love, Country style, Romantic (flowers, hearts the works)June Wedding: Themes: Romantic Garden Party Fuchias and Greens and purples, Love in the Park which could be all the colors (you would be surprised how easy it is to find decorations cheaper if you use all the colors) then Style for Romantic Garden I would stay more adult love, chic linens and the like.11 Months: Book a cheap Photographer, I am so serious about this it is something you would want. I know people can say use friends but your wedding pics are one in a lifetime. A good Idea is to go onto craigslist and put an add up for a local Photography student at your local colledge, explain that you are willing to pay for Ink and paper but you would like someone for free and that they would be allowed to use the photos you they take of your special day and use them in their Portfolio. so lets say... 200.00As for Video make sure to have some family members bring their Vid cameras, also set up one at the back of the room of the reception hall the clips you get when no one realizes a camera is on them is priceless. :)As for a DJ...IPOD!!!! Have a friend man the sound booth with your Ipod plugged in. for the reception choose a huge list of your favorite songs, for special dances makes sure said friend can use the Ipod, and play them then put fav songs on chuffle and dance the night away.Cake: choose cake and go Small we had a big cake and we ended up with three tiers left over! Go with a 12 inch a 8 inch a 6 inch and a 4 inch for your personal one year cake. that will still be big but look pretty, for decorations opt to but your own flowers, bows, top, whatever and tell your cake person aout what you want. Price? stay under 325.00Ushers: Forget them, they are just a way to throw around money you dont have. or use family if it is important to you.Wedding Party: Choose party carfully, the more people in the wedding party the more gifts, outfits, food, and such to buy. a good choice is maid of honor, best man, flowergirl, ring bearer, bride and groom (of course!) If you have a ton of friends ask them to wear outfits in the same colors of your wedding choice and they will be your HONERARY BRIDESMAIDS! just dont be too picky if the colors of thier outfits arent perfect! also make sure your party can pay for thier own outfits. I know you want to be nice but as long as you dont gouge them to go to a bunch of parties and let them wear shoes of choice and dont pick a dress that is 5000 bucks they wont mind paying for their own tux/dress. As for you and your groom stay on a budget for your dress and his tux. many consultants will tell you its ok to try your dress on that day and wait till next thursday for a sale! (I did that and got my dress 300.00 off! no joke!) Price? lets say: 1000.00 for dress and Tux and shoes and excessorys and makeup. you can do it! seriously!Food: SUBWAY! people love subway and the 12 foot sandwhiches can be made with like4 feet each of different meats cheeses and veggies, add the chips (buy yourself at costco) buy a few watermelons (for summer) and rent a coke or pepsi despenser and you have a good meal your guests will LOVE after the food is gone don't stress! most guests will leave before the reception anyways. Cost of all? about 250.00Flowers: If you can find a friend that will do your fresh flowers, go to craigslist. use somebody that will be willing to negotiate, all you need is a boquet and a smaller boquet, and two boutineers. ofr all decorations use fake flowers, micheals craft stores has good flowers and if you cant find anybody you kn ow personally to make your flowers then use micheals they have people that will make fake boquets for you. total cost 100.00Centerpieces: A good Idea is to go to a flea store, dollor store. etc. and buy some cheep vases and or dishes and fill with flowers, make the vases different shapes, ot will look way cool. place tea lights next to vases to add light. or another Idea is to buy cheap glass bowls, fill with water and play floating candles in the bows in the bottom of the bowls place rocks or gems in your colors. total cost? 75.00 Invites: go to Walmart and buy the WILTON brand of Invites you tak them home and make them yourself. my turned out great. Total cost for 50 guests is about 45.00 (I think each box has 50 Invites, envelopes, rsvp cards with envelopes, also you can buy WILTON programs for another 25.00 dollars also personisable. (I dont think that is a word!) Party Favors: Cheep Idea is to take your favorite Candies we used jelly beans and find eather sachel bags or some favor holders that match your styles and place your candies in their.also place bubbles on the tables for guests to blow when you leave. to personalize them, add a ribbon in your color. Um...about 100.00 for bubbles and candiesas for renting tables and table clothes dont be afraid to use your venue if your getting married in a church they usually have tables and table clothes, if they are whit trable clothes then get some fabric and find somebody you know that can make table runners to add color. cost maybe 100.00Buy your ring bearer pillow and flower girl baskets and add ribon and fabric to personalize...about 50.00ok also for a wedding officiant use your pastor if you have one or a friend can get ordained online. for the price of church and pastor you are looking at maybe 200.00 if you can pull some strings try to stick to that price though!Rehearsal dinner: have a bbq at a park or spagetti dinner at a friends house. make food yourself with help of friends and family, and make the atmosphere chill. do extra decorations, just good food, good people. Cost about 200.00 for bbq. 150 for spagetti dinner.Day of: do your own hair or use your friend or family member, have a friend or family member do your makeup, make sure your calm.Ok the Total cost for all the Ideas I gave you (completely Rounded) Is:2670.00 Good under budget with room for improvement, I do hope this helps. email me if I can help with anything else Congrats again and sorry this is SO LONG!
